In sports other than football. Travel is one of the main considerations. They started scheduling schools in the UA system in the last couple of years (particularly UALR and UAPB in baseball), but this is a huge departure from the the past. UCA and ASU are now on the table. The AD says the football schedule is full through 2026.

Other states probably don't get this is a big deal, but Broyles forbid the Hogs from playing any other state school in anything.

Apparently the only opponent easier to play than SJSU is Arkansas State.

Good luck against the Red Wolves.

Arkansas state has been a bowl eligible team these last 10 years. They get transfers each year from power 5 teams. They are better than San Jose state.

I mean this is a really odd policy. I can understand for football not scheduling them but for sports like volleyball or soccer too? Weird

Arkansas State would definitely skull drag the razorbacks. The way I see it, if UNT could do it, then Arkansas State certainly would.

A&M does pretty much the same thing. We play almost every in-state school in baseball yearly and we play at least 3 in-state schools in basketball yearly.

Not sure if we even had these sports back when Broyles first took over

Only time I’m aware that we’ve played Arkansas State was when we’ve been forced to in the NIT. UCA was very close to winning their conference baseball tournament a few years back and probably would have been in the Fayetteville regional but couldn’t pull it off. UALR beat the shite out of us in a midweek baseball game in 2019 and the world didn’t end, surprisingly. Don’t get people that are still against it.

Skull drag?

Chad Morris is no longer our head coach.

The Hogs WILL be playing UAPB in 2021 and at some point in the future, will most likely be playing ASU. But as it stated in the article, that will also depend on whether the ASU coaches want to play the Hogs.

Personally, I have no problem with it.

Why would a state school not encourage keeping money within the state.

“We’re scheduled out in football for the next five or six years,” Yurachek said. “So there’s no discussions going on with either [ASU or UCA] about football scheduling at this point.”

Our AD doesn't have a problem with scheduling ASU or UCA (for football) in the future. But it is unlikely for the next five or six years.

With no pro team, college sports is king in Arkansas. My guess is they didn't want to give ASU a platform in which they could possibly pull some fan support/instate recruits/donations from the UofA

Before Frank Broyles came here. The razorbacks were an after thought and most fans were fans of other college teams or the cardinals. They were terrible except for a few seasons. But Bowden Wyatt started a frenzy in the 54 season and won the SWC with only 25 players on the team. They were known as the 25 little pigs. This gave the school serious looks from Arkansans that didn't have a unified fan base and were looking for a team to support.

AD John Barnhill hired Frank Broyles not long after Bowden Wyatt left for Tennessee. Both individuals were dead set on making the state of Arkansas razorbacks only. Arkansas were still vulnerable in the early stages as the fan base was very small.

They made sure that teams like Arkansas state couldn't build up and challenge the razorbacks as the state was just too small to support two schools. So they never played them and believing if they did, it was a victory for Arkansas State and they would try to draw sympathy and get non razorback fans to support them.

They didn't want to play them and didn't want to lose to them as no matter the outcome, Arkansas state has all to gain and the Arkansas has nothing to gain from it.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello is part of the University system. They are not a competitor unlike Arkansas State. Monticello is where they make the Sea Ark boats which they did make for the United States Coast Guard.
