He was hired to coach Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa last night.

Seems to be a successful HS coach who spent the majority of his time in Mississippi and Arkansas. A ton of wins but he ended up leaving Arkansas for Alabama, even though he won a state title in Arkansas and had good deal of state championship game appearances.

Mitchell also has coached at five Mississippi schools – Starkville, Itawamba, Olive Branch, Charleston and Ripley. In 18 seasons, he won 164 games, six region titles and a state championship.

He has a 220-81 record in 24 seasons as a head coach overall with seven state title game appearances and two championships. Mitchell has won 10 or more games in 13 seasons and has only had three losing seasons.

SEC related - Alabama RB Brian Robinson went to Hillcrest.

Did very well at Starkville High. They have talent but he had them rolling and they haven’t really been the same since he left . Very good coach . Did very well at I think Olive Branch before Starkville as well

All of those mississippi programs you listed were successful before he arrived (though Starkville had dipped) and have been successful since he left. I think he's a good coach. He won't run your program into the ditch.

I think Olive Branch was very competitive while he was there.

OB has been solid for a while. Desoto county as a whole has massive schools with big talent pools.

Haven't followed him since he left. He was solid at Starkville, but Starkville is a pretty easy gig.

Optics-wise, it's weird that a coach with his record is on his 4th job since 2015.

He’s the Bobby Petrino of high school football.

You’ll win, you’ll fall apart when he leaves.

Honestly though it’s weird that he moves around so much. He supposedly left NLR to be close to his grand kids.

I played for Jamie Mitchell at Olive Branch back in the mid 2000’s. He’s a great coach, leader, and family man.

OB was stagnant when he arrived and he turned out program around, We dominated, went to the playoffs every year, almost winning state but fell short to South Panola.
