Arky is still missing two things. They don't have enough in state talent to be elite and they lack the name recognition to be able to compete with the big boys for the national big recruits. Sure, they can land some here and there, but they can't land enough to make a huge difference. I will say this, one good coaching hire, and this could easily change.

The big boys in the SEC don’t care about Arkansas. You guys will never be able to recruit like the big boys . You could be the top little 6 team if you make a home run hire . The only problem with a home run hire that a bigger school will steal him unless he has baggage like Petrino . Kiffin would be a great hire . He can recruit and has been in the SEC before. He also is a guy that teams are scared to hire because of his personality. Mike leach would be a good hire .

I realize that neither the Pigs nor the Horns like to admit it, but until about 1970, A&M was basically the Citadel. Mandatory Corps and no women, not to mention the impact of scholarship limits in 1974 to lessen Texas' ability to corner the talent market.
Honestly, the fact that you would ever lose to A&M prior to that is pretty remarkable.
Since 1971, the series is even, just like with Texas.
