Sorry, but no one watches track and field except once every 4 years.

at their main stadium..

No shite. When you play one game in a big city and have successfully put down every other in-state school, this happens.

Real programs do not need a “second stadium” because their fans will travel to the one and only stadium

Does Arkansas play many games there like they do in football? Do they have to play a series there like football makes them? I know State hasn't played them there in basketball or baseball but I didnt know how common it was since we play there in football before

We tend to play a game in basketball there and a game in baseball there when we can. We have games to spare in those sports after all and Little Rock is the largest city in the state. We aren't forced to do it, it just makes good sense. Like Ole Miss or State playing a basketball game in Memphis every now and then.

Football is more of a problem though. We used to play all of our big games in Little Rock for the simple reason of it being a tremendous pain in the butt to get to NW Arkansas. We used to sneak in a game against Ole Miss in Memphis every now and then for the same reason.

Now its an easy and pleasant drive up to NW Arkansas where the stadium is much larger, in much better shape, and in a much nicer part of town. Playing in Little Rock, which used to be a graveyard for visiting teams, has lost its mystique over the years.

Why do we keep playing there? 740k people live in the Little Rock area. Its larger then NW Arkansas (for now, in a decade or two that might not be the case) and has a ton of old money living there. The type of old money that is fond of being a big booster.

Basically we are the last hold over of how things used to be done in the South. Bama used to play a ton of games in Birmingham. Ole Miss and State used to play a ton of games in Jackson. We are just stubborn.

Plus we are trying to get a rivalry started with Mizzou. Making them go to Little Rock every other year should get them to hate us with a passion.

I went to a football game against you guys in Little rock. I bought tickets for 5 dollars outside the gate. Only because i insisted paying the guy... he looked hungry. There were more Mississippi State fans than Razorback fans. I'm betting there will be more Grambling fans.

When I was little (born in Cabot) my dad used to take me to Arkansas Travelers games. One of my favorite memories I think I still have a t shirt from then stored away.

Can’t remember the guys name but they had a great player who always did a cartwheel when he hit a HR

Traveler's games at Ray Winder Field, with a side trip to the zoo...

That was a real old-school ballpark.

State-Arkansas played a two game mid week baseball series in Greenville and Pine Bluff years back every year for several years and they would draw huge crowds at both cities.

So it is certainly good business for schools to play around the State for fan exposure and recruiting.

I'm not sure Gainesville has more to do than Fort Smith.

You DO know Arkansas is a real baseball program with comparable fan support, right? We're always right up there at the top with LSU in attendance numbers.

We only just had 32,000+ at our last weekend series at Baum.

It's nice to throw a midweek series to the fans downstate.

How about national championships?

And that has what to do with this thread?

Seems we should get a pat on the back in regards to fan support since our baseball program is not worthy and all.
