yes, but other scholarships do not provide what they are provided. Hell they get up to 19k a year besides their scholly and benefits
Good for them. Still doesnt mean they have no right to be paid for their services.
The whole idea of amateurism is bullshite. Once college moves to the Olympic model it will be better off.

Hate capitalism? I hate capitalism because I happen to think that a kid getting the oppurtunity for an education plus room and board that costs tens of thousands of dollars is ample compensation? I hate capitalism because I think that free handouts are a problem? really?
It's not my problem that some of these athletes are too dumb to realize the value they are getting from their athletic gifts...that there are thousands of young men and women who will never get the oppurtunity to get a college education at an institution like Tennessee because of cost, yet they get it for free and still complain that its not enough.

A guy like Arian Foster putting their voice behind this could force some real change in the NCAA. I've got a ton of respect for that guy.

at you thinking these kids aren't getting paid for their services. They don't buy drinks most of the time, they don't buy dinners at certain restaurants, they don't need to worry about clothes, rent, etc. What would be enough? $1000 a year? These kids will have that blown in about 10 minutes at Best Buy.
I know they are already being paid for their services. Im not going to be a hypocrite and condemn them for something everybody would do in their shoes.
Dont you think it would be better for everyone involved if there was a system in place that was transparent so it could be regulated?

I thought they had access to food at all times.

So, is he basically saying that UT refused to feed him? Because if that is his excuse I call bull shite.
There are no finer dining facilities and no more food made available to athletes, anywhere in the country, than at SEC programs.
I've recently eaten in the SCAR chow hall and it is like fine dining where you can get just about anything you want off of the line, 24/7 and are even allowed to take meals home if that is your wish and you are within your quota.
exaclty, and him talking about not being able to pay rent. I guess he spent the rent money the school gives him on something else
Arian wasnt broke here in SD either. Thats a Fact. Dude lived in PB 2 mins from the beach.
Tacos be cheaper out here

You hate capitalism because you seem to not like free market economies. These players have value, and its not up to you, me, or the NCAA to decide what that is.

His last season at UT was 2008. 4 year statute of limitations with the NCAA so we're good.

People continue to ignore that athletes DO get paid. I personally know a D1 football player and in his scholarship he receives a $1100 stipend every month on top of getting free tuition, unlimited access to their own personal dining hall and access to top of the line facilities. . The only reason any of these guys ever "go hungry" is because they blow their money on stupid shite.

There are students in all universities that help bring in money that don't really get paid for it. Plenty of students aid in research at universities that bring in millions of dollars in grant money, but they don't see a dime of it. They may get scholarships, but that's it. I don't see a lot people claiming they should be paid.

No and here's why. Try to pay attention: NO SYSTEM COULD EVER BE ENOUGH WITH THE KIND OF MONEY BEING THROWN AROUND AT THESE KIDS. Got it? Say you give them $2000 a year, which was the number thrown out by Spurrier a few years ago, do you really think 18-22 year olds will be financially responsible with that money? No system can compete with comped hotel rooms, free cars/clothes/whatever. It's not that hard to understand.

Sure they have value. The free market in this case is the NFL. The NFL has determined that players who are not 3 years out of high school have no value when it comes to being viable professional football players, as they are not ready for the rigors of the league.

They are also free to go out in the market and get their fair value while still retaining academic aid.
