So, what are the parameters?

They are listed in the OP:

- Conference wins
- Conference winning percentage
- Conference championships
- National championships
- Major bowl wins.

I'd throw Spurrier in off the cuff, but a deeper dive might disqualify him.

Why? In what scenario is Spurrier not in the top 10, especially compared to others on that list.

The scenario of someone who either wasn't alive for or was too young to remember Spurrier's run in the 1990s. He might be the greatest X's and O's coach in the history of the conference. His teams weren't all that talented but the man could scheme an offense like you wouldn't believe. Tennessee regularly had a more talented roster but Fulmer struggled to beat Spurrier time and time again.

Raw numbers of MNCs? I dunno, that was the point of my post.

In the Poll Era, the following are the only coaches in SEC history to win a national championship:

1. Robert Neyland (1951)
2. Ralph "Shug" Jordan (1957)
3. Paul Deitzel (1958)
4. Paul "Bear" Bryant (1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979)
5. Vince Dooley (1980)
6. Gene Stallings (1992)
7. Steve Spurrier (1996)
8. Phillip Fulmer (1998)
9. Nick Saban (2003, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2020)
10. Urban Meyer (2006, 2008)
11. Les Miles (2007)
12. Gene Chizik (2010)
13. Ed Orgeron (2019)
14. Kirby Smart (2021, 2022)

Of that number, only four (Bryant, Meyer, Saban, and Smart) have won more than one. With that in mind, how do you rank Spurrier outside of the Top 10 based on MNCs alone?

Spurrier won 11 games at South Carolina 3 times in a row. It’s the football equivalent of parting the Red Sea

frick's sake, man, it's not my position that SS should be left out.

What I said was "depending on the criteria you might make a case to leave SOS out."

Sure...if you're stupid.

There is no bit of criteria that would leave Spurrier out of a Top 10 list for all-time SEC coaches. He averaged over 10 wins per season from 1990-2001, won a national championship, and also won six SEC championships. And then at South Carolina he had three straight seasons of 11 wins, to include one Top 5 finish, before things fell apart for him in his final season and a half.

There is no leaving SOS out.

Spurrier is in due to his sarcastic humor alone.

Someone asked why Spurrier was on the list. You replied that it was a legitimate question depending on the criteria being used. It doesn't matter the criteria, Spurrier is in regardless.

I was merely disabusing you of the notion that it was a legitimate question. It wasn't.

No you're just being obtuse and hyperbolic. I can easily craft a list that leaves him out. It wouldn't be much of a football argument, but I can do it.

You are 12 or stupid. Spurrier is the reason the SEC isn’t 3 yards and a cloud of dust anymore.

Bear Bryant took Kentucky to the Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl. That is a great coach.
