This isn't different from people fricking out about a mid week game. Southern Miss is a damn good team and it wouldn't be surprised me if they made the CWS. Arkansas played Bucknell and Auburn played Longwood this weekend. State has all those type of games coming up. If you can 18-13 in conference play, you are going to make the NCAA tourney. It might be a #2 or #3 seed but you're in.

I guess anything could happen. I mean Davidson & a 3 seed A&M met in the supers last year.
Seems like a pretty big stretch to just expect Southern Miss to be in Omaha because they kicked State's arse to open the year.

Gotta disagree. Midweek game is your 4th best starter at best in a single game. This is 1-2-3 vs 1-2-3 over a full weekend. You let the same thing happen to you in May and you end up at home before Supers. Now it is only 1 series which is about 4% of the entire regular season so there is no need to overreact, but don't undersell it either.

I wouldn't throw in the towel on a young baseball team with talent this early. Pitching is always gonna trump young hitters early in the season. Hitters need live reps and there is a long way to go until May. See LSU every year. State and LSU were the only SEC teams to play anybody with a pulse, and they are two of the most talented young teams in the league. Were they both embarrassed? Yes. Will they end up being in the bottom half of the league standings at the end? Nope.

Well that’s not true.
Usm is a solid club. Duke was ranked so probs to Vandy. Norte Dame was not expected to be any good.
