The appearance of impropriety is often as damaging as actually getting caught with your unit in your neighbor's wife. Having tOSU's AD on the committee, and Notre Dame's former coach is damaging in itself.

I believe we can all agree that these two schools get more loving in the ratings.

If you want this to be beyond reproach, assign each school a revolving number, base the strength of schedules off of math and let an unbiased computer kick out the top four teams. Simple math does not lie.

The math's answer also changes, with each game, to provide more comprehensive, inalienable truths.

That's how you get a team that just got romped by 35 in the Championship game. See OU in '03.

What I am talking about is simple math. There would be no poll data, bias, and eye tests.

Part of the problem is Hocutt made it sound the week before like 5-8 were really close.

The real problem here is that the committee has to be interviewed every week.

I understand trying to add transparency to the selection process but it backfires in situations like this.

The majority of people thought Ohio State had little chance to overtake Alabama due to the extra blowout loss to Iowa but that Hocutt couldn't come right out and say it before the final games/meetings.

That part certainly is a "ratings" game to keep as much drama as possible for the final show.

I am constantly amazed at the implication that the committee has been compromised. These people were selected, vetted, purely on football knowledge and integrity. I guess the assumption is they are being paid by ESPN to push the games in a direction that is beneficial to Espn. I think the ultimate goal is to discredit the process so haters of college football can make a joke of it. I wonder why they don't name the committee members who are getting paid.

Based on the current criteria bama should have got in...but the problem is the committee moves the line based on what is best for TV ratings. They said, "bama was simply the better team, we are tasked with letting the best team in" However, if Wisconsin had won the championship they'd of gotten in and the committee would have said "Wisconsin's body of work was more deserving". There is a problem when that is case.

Again based on the current criteria bama should be in, but there is little doubt that the most deserving team should be in not the best team which can never be quantified.

IMO...this years argument between tOSU and bama really came down to most deserving. Based on the criteria bama was more deserving. Nobody on earth knows who is actually better.

He’s been relegated to the CBS Sports online halftime show and an afternoon radio show on ESPNU radio. He has to say things to keep his name in the news or people would forget he’s there.

I don't think FSU QBs are required to even take math

While I’m not in the habit of defending Jameis Winston, didn’t he score 1 point shy of Peyton manning on the wonderlic? It was an upper 20’s score if I’m not mistaken. Certainly not the highest, but well above average I think. And definitely not a Vince Young type score.

Jesus Christ Ryen went in yesterday I wish they still had a show. The back and forth would’ve been epic

Don't be dense. OU was NOBODIES #2 in the polls. It was the math that dragged them in. Math is nothing more than gussied up transitive property if you don't make some adjustments based on common sense. Do some Research.

Look- most reasonable fan bases whose team lost by 31 to a mediocre team with an additional home loss would tell you they aren’t deserving. As a Buckeye fan there is no way I could justify OSU getting in the playoff. Most on 11 warriors will say the same. People like Kanell want to stay relevant but the world has passed him by. Even the man all the SEC homers love to hate (Urban) knew they would be left out. And he didn’t pout or throw chairs or anything like that. You guys wanted him to melt but he didn’t. It’s water under the bridge. Kanell needs to find another hobby.

I love college football but the committee is a joke. All this overthinking process to come to the same conclusion polls do and the BCS did. It's television ratings pure and simple. Picking the best four is just not that hard.

Winston scored a 27. His intelligence has never been in question. It's his decision making and impulse control that he has a problem with.

You know that Ohio State over Alabama is a tv network's wet dream when the three other teams are South of the Missouri Compromise Line, right?

This. If for any other reason that Kanell thinks this was for TV, did he not see the 2011 BCS title game? That had the worst ratings in the BCS era. The committee made the decision based on wins and losses. Total number of wins and losses. Two losses for OSU looks a lot worse, despite their top 15 wins. Maybe the Big Ten should go back to scheduling a Mercer or a Troy if that is how the resumes will be perceived. Not taking a shot at any particular team, but you have to admit that a padding your stats game looks better in the W-L column.

You obviously don’t know or listen to Kanell. I have this year and I actually agree with him more often than not. If you don’t realize that ESPN is a division of the university of Alabama you are not paying attention, but that is not what he said at all. He said he doesn’t have problem with Bama getting in except they say the value conference champs, etc. but with the eyeball test and “best” team mandate etc really can do whatever they want so why do we even try to figure it out since it will change from person to person to year to year. And he is correct. What he advocates and I have also since day 1 is 8 team playoff. 5 conference champs best of group of five as 6 seed and Two wildcards as 7 and 8 seeds. You get a bonus in seeding if you win your conference and eyeball test goes to two teams. What the hell is wrong with this? We are loving this because we are always getting it. Let us get left out a few years and we hate it too. He doesn’t hate SEC, he does think Bama gets way too much deference on everything so maybe he hates Bama. Hence, he is my new best friend lol

Horrible post. Your blind hate of Bama is telling.

Just for the record, I like Meyer ok. He's a very good coach and I kind of like Florida, and he did good for them. I hate when he beats Alabama, and didn't mind seeing him go, but still...
