This. It does help to have a lot good recruiting class but ultimately its up to the coaches to develop a player physically and mentally into a great player.

I follow recruiting and was bummed we didn't get him, but honestly my first reaction was to laugh. We will carry on, but some people on this board act like the world just ended.

People take football way to serious. We have Updykes in our fanbase.

Even though Draconian is a tool, I will be truthful in saying that I wouldn't worry about it if I was an LSU fan. What were the star rankings of TM7, and Mo Claiborne? Your staff knows how to make great dbs.

there is a high correlation between recruiting in the SEC west and success on the field.

McShay and Kiper jr say that Bama currently has 17 future NFL guys and LSU has 10 future NFL guys.

Apparently Miles and his staff are better at coaching and x's and o's, than Saban is, because Bama has the better players on the field, they say.

Sure Saban recruited him hard but I think this one has more to do with him wanting to go to college in T-town with his girlfriend. Hell did you see his mom's reaction on national TV? He may flip by the first but probably not. I wish the kid the best either way.

Mo Claiborne was a 3 star recruit. Pretty sure Honey Badger was too. Love the Patrick Peterson 5 star types too.

We lost Joe McKnight to USC and that cost us what?

I just want kids who want to be at LSU to come to LSU. It usually works out pretty good that way. I wanted LC to want to come to LSU but he doesn't. I wish him well.

I agree with Draconian. I do like to hear we are getting a top class but a major recruit signing does not always work out. There are too many things that can happen in a players development like injuries or unrealized potential.

I refuse to obsess about where a hogh school kid wants to go to school. The dude probably wanted to get the hell away from his folks. Or whatever. Its his life. I dont care about high school football bc its just kids, and i dont care where those high schoolers go to college.

LSU needs QBs more than DBs and we got the #1 QB in the nation. It hurts like hell to lose the states top player to motherfricking alabama...

Right-this kid may be great but he didn't want to be here. We all thought the world was falling when Joe Mcknight went to USC....that really hurt us didn't it. I remember his cocky press conferance talking all that shite about he wanted to go where they win NC's. Funny thing is if he would have gone to LSU, he would have had a ring the following year. TM7 was overlooked by Saban and Bama even after showing out at one of their camps and Miles took the chance. Who cares about what-all I know is our "inferior classes" to Bama has figured out a way to beat them and I have a feeling its going to be 3 in a row come Monday night!! By the way-you get the feeling mom smells something about Bama?

You guys have a top class every year. Saban has said he likes college better because he can have as many number 1 picks as he wants

I agree with you. I followed recruiting pretty closely in high school, but I don't really give a shite anymore. Yeah, it's exciting when you hear about your school getting a commit from a highly touted recruit, but so many of them end up not panning out that it just feels like a waste of time to get too deep into it. It's the coaching staff's job to worry about that stuff, not mine. I just watch the games.

Also, the fans who harass these kids over their decision via facebook, twitter, encounters at wal-mart, etc. should probably consider drinking hemlock.

Personally I like winning football games. Winning with LA studs makes it a little sweeter.

Me too. But I'd rather win with mostly in state players than having to rely too heavily on players from other states.

Agree with the OP. And the LC kid looks like he'll be dealing with a few off the field distractions.

LSU wanted Collins in a big way to put in the stable with the other DB's.

He obviously felt he had a chance of getting on the field quicker at bama than in BR. Good for him.

But the biggest "stars" that go out of state, particularly to a "rival" school, need that situation to work out. Right or wrong, the kids that leave their home state to play face a big hurdle when they come back home if things don't work out via injury, academics, etc... Not much sympathy from the home folks.

This 25 schollie limit deal is going to hurt the SEC in the long run (maybe sooner). It is going to push some kids that would normally get signed to other conferences.

Beyond this aspect, I think following recruiting too close is akin to day trading. Can drive you crazy with all movement.
