Any Notre Dame fans here that have logical reasons they should have made the playoff?

I agree the rules are stupid, and ND would smoke JMU, Tulane, and plenty of other playoff teams... But you have to admit the rules were there in place and chaos happened.
After Duke blew up the system, it came down to Miami/ND/Alabama
-Alabama was 9th and played in a conf champ game (arguably the strongest conference), so youd have to penalize them pretty severely for losing a champ game, which also sucks.
-Miami beat you head to head and had almost identical SOS and SOR. Cant really argue that one.
-BYU just got kicked to the curb cuz they arent a premier brand
What sucks is that the committee ranked you ahead of miami and then flipped after neither team played. This does suck, but they aren't obligated to the rankings until they are finalized. And I think they did this because they were going to shoe horn you in over BYU after virginia won and they had an extra spot.
End of the day, you didnt win the games you had to win. And you got penalized for not being in a conference, as it should be. You cant take the pros of being independent then complain about the cons when it doesnt go your way.
Opting out of your bowl game was a pussy move and I think it hurts the ND brand.

Bama needed to be penalized for losing the championship game by 21 points. Even if they wanted to keep them in the playoffs, they should have dropped them to 10. I heard the argument that if they dropped Bama for losing the conference championship it would make conference championships meaningless. BUT If them know they can’t be penalized AT ALL for losing the conference championship, doesn’t that also make the game meaningless? Why not rest your stars for the Championship after a brutal SEC conference schedule so they are healthy and fresh the the CFP instead of risking an injury in a game you won’t be penalized for looking like horse shite in?

Not a ND fan. They lost first two games by combined 4 points. Numerous computer models, ones for BCS, SP+, show them being #6 in the rankings.

Not a bad talking point. But what happened to a loss is a loss and a win is a win? That's what makes CFB so fun. Now it seems we are trying to say my 2 close losses are better than your 1 blowout loss. F that.

Sure, and there’s a ranking for that.
It depends on what question you’re trying to answer. If the question you’re trying to answer is top 12 teams that would have the highest probability of winning (Vegas) then recruiting plays a huge role. Teams taking losses on unlucky/bad bounces wouldnt be punished. LSU, ND, Michigan and Texas might be in.
If the question is based on the season’s results then who should be in… well that’s a different question.
Notre Dame has one of the highest predicted chance of winning, but they barely lost two games. Vegas likes them, but do they deserve to be in???
I’m not their fan, I don’t care, and recognize them being a b for opting out of the BYU bowl.
I wish Vandy got in because they deserve it on their record and aren’t winning the recruiting war that plays so much into the Vegas odds.
Recruiting is just an outcome of willingness to spend money of effectively pro athletes. We’ve gotten so far away from Student Athletes.

There was no justification between the second to last week and last week of the regular season to have Bama jump ND. Nothing they did against Auburn justified moving them ahead of ND. That is a massive problem.

Miami and ND should be in an not Bama. Alabama is the one causing the biggest mess, despite two bad losses, one of which is an embarrassment, and being allowed in.
Miami had losses by 9 points combined to two 8 win teams + a top 12 win.
ND had losses by 4 points combined to two top 12 teams.
Bama had a 14 pt loss alone to a 5-7 FSU team + another 2 losses including a blowout to UGA by 21.
The biggest issue was dropping BYU but not dropping Bama. Both teams got wiped off the field in their conference title game, but one dropped and the other didn't.
Again, special rules for certain teams led to this mess.
Are any of those 3 actually deserving to play for an NC? No, and it is why the 12 team playoff is stupid.
It should have been capped at 8 teams with top 5 conference champions and 3 at large bids. If only 3 P4 conference champions are ranked, then 4th spot goes to an at large.
This way you reward at least the top 8 teams or teams that earned it through a conference championship.
Instead, it was all about money and ESPN as usual continues to ruin the sport.

Except for Bama's losses not being held against them at all.
Kills your logic right there.

If you want to be in the playoffs, win against good teams.

A conference champ loss was not supposed to affect your standing.

Notre Dame does have some logical reasons for making the playoffs.
But this would have been a better thread ...
From what I heard, the Notre Dame players were beyond distraught when they got the news yesterday morning.
The term I heard was "physically distraught".
They also were known for verbally attacking reporters in the locker room after their loss to Ohio State last year in the NC game.
A program full of entitled jackasses imo.

So Bama didn’t move down because it was a CCG. But…
Ohio State moved down
BYU moved down
Virginia moved down
That seems odd.

I tend to agree. A lot of weirdness.

With apologies to David letterman..
Top 10 Reasons Notre Dame Should Have Made the CFP
10. ESPN needed a team that casual fans would recognize
9. Because everyone loves a good “back in the day” story
8. They promised to “keep it close this time”
7. Their gold helmets alone are worth at least two playoff slots
6. Because “Win one for the Gipper” is still considered a valid game plan in South Bend
5. Their AP preseason ranking did most of the heavy lifting.
4. Rudy was ready to come out of retirement and ride someone’s shoulders again
3. The leprechaun tried to bribe the committee with a pot of gold
2. They won the “Most Respectable Loss” award unanimously
1. Touchdown Jesus personally vouched for them

The precedent set by the earlier rankings:
It was dumb to move bama up after their AU game.
It was dumb to push Miami ahead after they ignored the head to head.

Tulane is in their spot and JMU is in Vandy's.
Nobody wants to see these teams play. Tulane already lost to Ole Miss by 35.
Imagine ND in Oxford.
Imagine Vandy in Eugene.
People would actually watch those games.
Non-Power 4 teams should have to be undefeated to qualify and that shouldn't be automatic.

Neutral. The system is broken. Period. It’s not about getting the 12 best team in. Anyone who tries to defend it is naive, dunb or just happened to benefit from the inconsistencies this round. I need a break Enjoyed the time on here. Some of you really know ball
