The decision to pay them more or not is not going to be based on economics.
The NBA is going to pay them more because the executives and owners are obsessed with looking progressive to their friends. They consider it an advertising cost. They can make a press release saying how much they care about women and it will be in the news cycle for a while. It's all about virtue signaling.
And unfortunately it will be presented by the media as though they got what they deserved instead of the case being that anything they get paid over their market value basically being charity to make the NBA looks better.
