They did the HBO Max release same day, didn't they? I think that's how I watched it.

I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I’ve never heard of the dude. But I don’t watch movies so I guess I missed it.

Yea for some reason I was thinking he'd been in more stuff than he actually has. He really was pretty non-existent in leading roles pre-COVID.

It’s moments like these that truly brings the reality of being old into focus.

I’m completely out of touch with modern pop culture…I’m ok with that.

But why? He didn’t even go to any of the schools involved.

Only current movies I seem to be able to watch these days are whatever kid blockbuster is out each quarter. Everything else I’m like 2-3 years behind at least.

No dobut. The funny thing is one of the reasons I do know him other than seeing a couple of his movies is that I saw him do some interviews randomly and his SNL hosting gig, and he basically just made fun of himself the whole time. The sort of anti-modern stuff that appeals to olds like myself.

I can't remember but I don't think so. It was at the end of the whole covid thing, fall 2021. Maybe?

I just remember it lost a ton of money. I watched on one of the apps at some point, once. It left me with no desire to watch Dune 2 but people liked it a lot more I've heard.

Both lost money, Dune 1 lost a lot of money.

Yep - I remember that. I was not a Dune book person but was intrigued so I watched them both. Enjoyable, but definitely not something that stuck with me.

It (Dune Part 1) grossed over $400 million and was made with a budget under $170 million, before folks had started heading back to movie theaters post-COVID. It was also critically well received. Part 2 was made for just under $200 million and grossed $700 million.

Wasn’t he in that movie where he fell for an Italy guy and the guy busted a nut in a peach and he ate it in front of him?

I almost threw up after seeing it

170 million produciton and low estimate of $80 milion in advertising. Total cost: 250 million, maybe more. You can generally basically double the production for the advertising and that'd be 300+ million in costs.

They get about half the domestic and less of the worldwide in gross.

It lost 10s of millions of dollars man.

Dune 2 probably broke even or made a little money. 190 million production plus over 150 million in ads. Less than 350 million back to the studio.

I was trying to think of the last movie I watched in a theater and I believe it was Forrest Gump.

I don’t watch them on tv so I’m sure I’ve missed a little in the meantime.

But I watch plenty of sports and this dude didn’t ring a bell.

First movie I saw him in was Beautiful Boy. He did a great job. That movie was sad as hell.
