Building a team long term starts with getting freshman out of highschool, developing them and then using them and repeating that process year after year.
You spent a ton of cash in the portal to get players now and to win now.

They brought in 19 high school kids last cycle, have 16 committed for this year already.

Sure, I think they're trying to win this year, but they aren't "all in" on 2026. Nearly all of the players they brought in through the portal have at least two years of eligibility remaining.
Wouldn't be shocked to see some like Leavitt return.

Yes but nobody just dominates with a new roster year 1 in the SEC. Doesn’t happen. Lane chose LSU bc he can do well in the portal while recruiting elite Hs players. It’s a match made in heaven. And 1 tough loss to the best QB in college football that he and Charlie coached up isn’t going phase us. I like Pete Golding. I hope he’s successful but Ole Miss’s defense last year is why they didn’t win a championship. The offense carried an average defense. The obvious question is what will Ole Miss do post Chambliss. I’m willing to bet it’s not what they’ve done the last calendar year. I’ll ban bet with anybody here they don’t win more than 8 games next year.

Lane needs to be a different person and coach than he has been in the past if he hopes to meet the expectations LSU fans have.
I still don't think you realize who you hired. You saw a guy have a little success on the easiest schedule in the SEC last year and went ape shite.

The number to the right is expected losses for an elite team on the schedule. Most of that for Ole Miss was from Georgia, which Ole Miss lost to under Kiffin. The other was Oklahoma. The rest of their schedule was cake.
And based on that, you deemed Kiffin to be worth all that money.
His 2024 schedule was also easy, but he managed 3 losses against unranked teams.
His game management is arse and always has been.

He’s in the first year of his new job. I doubt he was devastated and forced to question everything by some former players running around and pointing at him.

He looked super depressed, especially after. I think he was dreading this game because I’ve never seen him look worse or more humiliated in a post game interview.
