I disagree. Punishing the players for the fans misbehavior doesn't resolve the issue. Why punish them for other's bad behavior? Punish those who are responsible! Fans caught throwing things ought to be permanently banned from future games, imo.
It's a shame that a few fans have used their bad actions to bring harm and disgrace to the university and their athletic program.
Forfeiture of games is out of the question.

You’ll have to forgive my hesitancy, I’m in full provocateur mode.

Most likely a monetary fine and attendance restriction for the remainder of the season. It wasn't just students, so you can't just blame all of the students for what happened. Probably a 50% attendance restriction and no alcohol sales and a $500k fine.

Fine them and add golf balls and french’s mustard to things you can’t bring into the stadium???
Also fire all of the SEC refs for the terrible job they have collectively done so far this season.

Why should Tennessee be punished? Because some pearl clutching liberals can’t handle what happened? Pathetic.

You must be one of those geniuses that also thinks that the way to stop mass shootings is to confiscate assault weapons from law-abiding citizens too.

You could make them play in a Bowl game if they can get to 6. Just having to play 12 is the easy way out for them.

Forfeiture of SEC revenue distribution
Reduction in attendance (specifically student section) over the final 3 home games
And, all golf ball marketing profits go to a charity for ego scarred band kids.

I think it should be a fine with a probation period. If they do it again, then roll out the draconian sanctions.

I've been watching SEC football since the 1960's and I don't recall a game ever, EVER, being halted for over 20 minutes due to objects from a "few" fans being thrown at the opposing team, the field, or their own cheerleaders. I've never seen a home team band having to exit a stadium with one minute left in a game while the game is being halted due to a "few" fans hurling objects.
This made a night game in Baton Rouge look like Disney World in the kiddie section.

Qualifiers for your probation period?

How about looking at what basketball does. A crowd gets hit with a technical foul. Why not 15 yards unsportsmanlike penalties? Keep tossing stuff then another. When the fan base realizes it is hurting it's team, not helping them they quit. That and banning the ones you catch tossing stuff.
I remember a UK fan years ago chucked a bottle and hit another UK fan. He was caught, banned from games for life and every Sunday for 5 years had to help clean up the stadium. That stopped it.
Talk of banning other fans or losing home games is ridiculous. You are punishing Knoxville economically for the actions of a relative few. Maybe 1 to 2 percent actually threw stuff and the idiots hit their own fans.

I agree with what you’re saying, and it’s more like .001% of the people there

Maybe on the first offense. And, there is a difference in a few drunken degenerates and 100k drunken degenerates.
I've never seen anything like last night at the college level. That was prime time Cleveland DogPound throwing batteries at cheerleaders x10. Absolutely embarrassing how long it drew out.
Maybe it's like a sideline warning, but go to the third call which is Forfeiture of the game by the offending (generally always home team) fan base.
Of course with that, a select amount of schools are already planning on wearing opposing fan gear and sabotaging the opponent one mustard bottle at a time
