I can't believe the longhorn network only came about in 2011. I really thought it was a mid 2000s creation.

That has to be one of ESPNs stupidest decisions of all time

ETA: this is the danger of ESPN basically owning most conferences. They will manipulate everything and frick it up.

Of course Texas and Oklahoma were okay with it. They'll get a huge payout from the new media deal, one that'll make up for losing LHN.

Just seems that way because all the highlights on the channel are pre 2000

This is quite possible. But conference realignment has been happening the entire existence of CFB.

Not just that, but look at what they own media wise and how much of the streaming market they own.

They were late to the streaming game, but they've put in the investment to catch up.

Will add the controlling interest in Hulu to the timeline.

Of course it is. The Mouse doesn’t want Texas in the PAC 12 which is broadcasted more on Fox.

If Disney are the ones pulling the puppet strings on these deals, at what point do they face antitrust allegations from Fox or others?

I mean if they truly are working to monopolize the marketing by leading public institutions to leave behind FOX deals to conferences they control, it seems to me like there's some pretty major exposure to litigation from those who stand to lose out due to those machinations. Mainly FOX and the institutions left out in the cold.

Let's see what happens after their latest deals run out. They'll be competing against Google,Amazon,Facebook, etc. and all are worth more than Disney.

Most of the conference deals deals will have to be renegotiated.

If the ACC adds WVU, well then that ESPN-ACC deal will have to get reworked.

If the Big 10 adds KU and ISU, that renegotiation opens up a window for ESPN. Same as if the PAC12 adds TTU, Baylor, or OSU.

ESPN can lock up CFB media rights for a long time and have CFB consumers by the shorthairs until that deal expires. "Want to watch that Ole Miss - Arkansas game? It is only on ESPN +, so you'll have to buy that. The SEC GOTW will only be on ESPN Saturday Nights - no streaming - so you better not cut that cord."

Pac 12 in discussion with Apple,Amazon and Netflix for new TV deal.

It expires in '24 and I could see em pulling the trigger for partial TV rights because they're pretty desperate for revenue.

ESPN is dying SEC needs realize this when new TV rights come around.. Pac 12 will be ahead of SEC if that happens.. They will not be ahead really but just in moving to a new era of sports to new platforms..

Disney is well positioned to compete with Amazon (who uses Amazon Prime as a loss leader) and Apple TV+ (same reason).

With the decreased revenue from theme parks, Disney is probably going hard on the streaming front.
