The formula rewards consistency.

The way they do it a national title one season followed by a finish at #21 is worth less than finishing #10 in consecutive seasons.

It's pretty obvious Alabama is a better all-time program than Oklahoma.

Arkansas & A&M are close but there is a small yet very clear edge for A&M. Both are just in the top 20ish.

the clear edge is in the head to head record Aggy bitch

Yeah Oklahoma is number 1 despite not sniffing a title since Bill Clinton was porking fatty's in the oval office.

Any list that erases 4+ decades of football because of laziness is shite.

Issue #1 : Alabama not #1
Issue #2 : Michigan is #2 but has not been a threat since e what the 1950's?
Issue #3 : Texas is #7 and should at least be behind #8 Nebraska
Issue #4 : Penn State has just 2 MNC's and should be behind schools with 3 or more
Issue #5 : Georgia Tech is #25 with 4 MNC's (last in the 1990's) in 4 different eras with 4 different coaches should be at least as high (if not higher) than any other school with 4 or fewer MNC's. (now I must go shower for having to defend the Bumbles).

I mean, its not subjective. It's simply the AP Ranking since 1936. It is what it is... so therefore accurate if you want to look at it in that way.

There is always debate on whether a strong performance in 1936 should count equally as a strong performance in 2018. So yes, you can argue if you think this rationale is the correct way of looking at it or not.

But facts are facts. Arkansas has a better AP History as opposed to Clemson. Clemson was not exactly setting the world on fire until recently.

Problem is this isn't all-time. The best for that is CFDW but they stopped updating after the 2015 season.

1. Alabama
9. LSU
10. Tennessee
11. Georgia
12. Florida
13. Auburn
20. Texas A&M
23. Arkansas
26. Ole Miss
35. Missouri
41. Mississippi State
42. Vanderbilt
46. Kentucky
61. South Carolina

It's weird, they always went with "recognized" national titles until recently.

While the data set they use is at least semi-objective, the way they score it is not. Any scoring system that says the difference between finishing 24th and 25th is quantifiably the same as the difference between finishing 1st and 2nd is clearly silly.

I see a lot of people criticizing Oklahoma for their conference affiliation, and while it's true that the SEC is the premier league in the country now that has not always been the case.

It wasn't too long ago that the SEC was clearly behind the Big10, and back in the day the SWC was no joke.

I do agree though that Alabama should be #1 on this list. Savana has done a great job there.

horseshite. The Big 10 has historically been known as a weak arse conference with only 2 legit teams. It was called the Big 2 and Little 8. The SEC was incredibly underrated and consistently got the shaft until they started proving themselves in the BCS, and remember even most of those selections were begrudging

The SEC has the same reputation outside the SEC, man. The SEC is top heavy as hell.

We're talking about historically.

From the 50s to the 90s, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Bama, UGA, Tennessee and Florida were National Title teams from the SEC. The Big 10 only ever had Michigan and Ohio State. Every other team has been irrelevant practically forever (Penn State was independent until 1993)
