re: All this arguing about the CFP is stupid and shows why the committee was a bad idea

18 team conferences isn't going to solve any controversies. You will get teams who haven't played each other eliminated by the 4th crazy tie break just like you got this year so it does not get solved on the field.

No. That would not happen. The path to the playoff would be determined by you winning your division in your conference to earn a spot in your conference playoff. You would play all other teams in your division so any ties would be broken by head to head results. Win your division and you’re in. Otherwise you’re heading to the Mayonnaise Bowl or whatever.

All the complaining and arguing really hasn't changed from when there were no playoffs or BCS championships. It was all still voters (AP etc) based on season and bowl games. Just that now we argue over who gets in... I would hate for conference championships to go away.... but I see it happening...

That’s the beauty of my idea. Not only does it keep the confidence championship game, it makes them actually meaningful. And with the conference playoff system being determined by teams being in and having to win conference divisions, you don’t have all the convoluted tie breakers like we do now.

This system of conference playoffs deciding conference champions then feeding those conference champions into a national playoff to determine the national championship is the best solution.

It’s pure. It removes all biases. It removes the human element all together. You either win it on the field or you don’t. If you don’t make the playoff, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Win your division
Win your conference playoff game
Win your conference championship
Win your NC playoff game
Win the NC game

It’s that simple.

The whole point of having a playoff was so the championship could be decided on the field. It was supposed to end the controversy of having champions decided by votes or arbitrary decisions.

And yet everyone continues to ignore the most important aspect of this. Who is the best football team in America? Is that not the point? When did we get so caught up in who the 12th best team is, or the 10th best team.

So who is the best college football team in America?
All I know right now is that it's not Alabama, or Ohio State, or BYU, or anyone else who lost this weekend. I also know that it's not my beloved Ponies, or the Aggies, or anyone else who lost in the last couple of weeks. I do agree with Gruden in that all of the contenders should have to play. It's not fair that some get to sit out and rest.

Would it work if we selected the best 6 conference championship matchups (12 teams) and seeded the next best 12 teams from the non-championship pool into a play-in bracket?

What an awesome weekend this would have been with 6 more games between the contenders.

So you are also advocating to bring back divisions. It's interesting we no longer have divisions but we still have playoffs, that doesn't make sense.

there really is little functional difference between 9 team divisions with conference playoffs and then a 4 team playoff and 9 team conferences with an 8 team playoff.

Exactly. Bring back the divisions and make winning your division be what determines if you make the conference playoff game and eventual conference championship to determine who represents your conference in the national championship playoff.

Or or orrrr… have a committee that actually knows football and what they are doing

But I think any team that really deserves a title gets a shot. When you have more than 2 losses then it should be out of your control. Even if we go to 50 teams then 51 and 52 will whine about being left out.

I think today perfectly sums my point that as long as you even have a committee, college football will be broken. As long as you have a group of humans sitting around deciding who is in and who is out, then FBS college football is for all intents and purposes no better than a beauty pageant.

My solution is the best way to remove the inevitable arbitrary nature of committees.

1. Conferences from divisions
2. Division camps goto conference playoffs
3. Conference champions go to national playoffs
4. A real national championship is decided purely based on results on the field.

I like 4 conferences of 16, split into 8-team divisions, all playing 10 conference games and 2 OOC P4 games. No games vs G5 or FCS.

This will never happen. Those schools make way too much money over those rent-a-win games. It’s how their athletic program survive.

If anything the committee didn’t penalize any teen that played. The bigger issue is ND is not in a conference. If they had joined the ACC they would have played yesterday and probably would be in but they have chosen to go it alone and today it bit them in the arse.

Keeping G5 schools afloat should not be the concern of the P4

They should go with 5 Power Conferences with 12 or 14 teams in each.
1. SEC
2. Big Ten
3. Big 12
4. ACC
5. Pac 10

All of this is ginned up by ESPN to get people to watch. It is a sideshow and distraction from the actual sport. In short order it will be down to the contenders and the chaff will have been cut. All the worrying about who was "on the bubble" will be irrelevant and forgotten

The talking heads need something to talk about
