Rivalries can go on even if you don't play every year. We have a great rivalry with Auburn, and there is as much hate between UF and Miami as any schools and we don't even play as frequently as we do the SEC West schools.
Change is the only thing constant, so you guys better get ready, because there are too many other schools that have already had big time rivalries interrupted due to conference expansion.

Personally I would prefer to see Bama/Auburn, Auburn/UGA, and Bama/Tenn play every year... but given the present unhealthy level of animosity between Bama and Auburn I'm slightly surprised the idea of moving Tennessee to the West and Auburn to the East hasn't been floated more frequently.

You do see some Auburn fans that seem to be in favor of moving to the East (old Florida rivalry and pipeline) but how about the Tennessee folks?

It would keep Bama/Tenn and Auburn/UGA playing every year at least

Yeah, but those rivalries ended because programs decided to leave a conference.

I have no idea why the second pic was so big, don't get your panties in a bunch.

I'm not sure how it would affect recruiting, but I'd prefer that Tennessee and Alabama are in the same division.

When mizzou was coming in, the initial vote for them to the west and AU to the east was vetoed by UF/UGA/UT/Bama

A lot of people forget that Bama's own fight song references sending the "Rambling Wreck to a watery grave," in reference to Georgia Tech so it IS possible to develop other rivalries after you lose others.

right, but moving Tenn to the West in exchange for Auburn to the East is what I'm asking about. Because with the limited options the SEC currently faces that seems like a potential problem solver (esp if bama/auburn want to cool down the craziness by playing less and we need to maintain Bama/Tenn and Auburn/UGA)

I'm not sure I'm really in favor of the idea (because I like seeing Bama/Auburn games) - I'm just asking because it might be a partial solution no one seems to be publicly pushing

I would be crushed and it would change the entire spirit of the game. YES.

It makes sense to do this, I don't know why this doesn't happen. UF has played UT 41 times, with only 21 games prior to expansion. UGA has almost an identical history with UT.

On the flip side UF has played Auburn 83 times and played every year between 1927 and 2002.

The Vanderbilt and Kentucky football games are not a significant loss. Trading Florida and Georgia for Bama is an easy decision.

In a couple of more years, we'll add two more teams. If they both come from the east, then Missouri will move to the west. If they come from the west, then Alabama and Auburn will both move to the east.

That would make the present scheduling issues even worse most likely

16 teams makes little sense unless you can divide the SEC into four divisions. Because two 8 team divisions would functionally be two different conferences sharing 1 or maybe 2 inter-division games

Because of money and geography issues they would probably most like to add a single team from north carolina and virginia (fairly big states that would generate television revenue) but those aren't the only options if getting to 16 could mean a two round division playoff for the SEC Championship (additional revenue for that as well)

Not playing Alabama every year is good for UT.

Deal with it
