It was weird on the last CBS EOB podcast they were treating Syracuse like it is gonna be a shitty job once Boeheim is done.
It's odd honestly. I mean it's ESPN U and in the richest basketball talent pool in the country. I don't get that either unless they're basically saying their administration is incompetent.

the difference is we will offer him 4 million if that's what it takes.
It's going to take "I would be a fricking moron to turn this down" money. Think Coach K.

I was pretty stoked for Bruce Pearl to come to AU for all the reasons you mentioned!
I agree. I would love for the days when the SEC is again a power conference in the NCAAs! UA getting a top coach will go a long way towards that happening.

We have that with Saban currently....but that is Saban of course and he can dictate anything he likes.....
I get it with Saban, but I do not think they would give the basketball coach the same power.

I don't think they are the only ones who feel that way. I do disagree with the sentiment.

I don't think that is a problem for UA. They are flush with Athletic Dept. cash to make the big splash. It only depends on if their AD is willing to go that route.

I agree. He'll probably get a raise to 2 million or a little more this offseason. But I think we'll throw the checkbook at him with a really good recruiting pitch with Saban on board and make him tell us what he wants. You could be right. It may not happen. But we're going to do everything in our power to make him sign the deal. We're prepared to make it rain in this bitch.

He also turned down UCLA. You think they didn't offer big money? That screams that he's holding out for a very specific job.

According to the article they didn't even get to "talk" so who knows what they did or didn't offer. I think you are making quite a few assumptions to fit your preconceived notions.
I'd be surprised if it works out and I can see some reasons why it may be a bad move but I can see just as many or more why it would be a good move.

UCLA is a very tough job. I don't know if I would take that job. Wooden is their God and anything less is a disappointment. That is pretty hard to replicate in today's environment.

Unless they offer him Saban money or more there is absolutely no chance whatsoever.

You think they didn't float an amount to his agent/"representative"?
I know y'all aren't that naive.

These rinkidink basketball school guys will quickly realize that working for a football powerhouse may have a few advantage$.

Ben howland got pretty close. It's a job with a lot of expectation but attainable if you can lock down southern California talent
Jim Harrick had a good tenure until he got fricked by the school

I doubt they are selling UCLA on price.

The simple fact that bammers would insinuate/use Saban as a form of recruitment is why Marshall will tell them to F right off.
He doesn't give a flying F about Saban and would rather go somewhere where he is the guy.
Marshall at Texas is pretty scary.
UCLA is paying Alford 3.5MM, surely they offered that to GM. Laughable to think he'd take the Bammer job over UCLA.

I'm sure they weren't, but you've insinuated throughout this thread that all it'll take is throwing a little cash his way. UCLA doesn't have a money problem when it comes to basketball.
I do find that insinuation very rich given that was Texas' mentality when trying to nab Saban.

I've done no such thing and you are being myopic if you think "throwing a little cash" is all Bama can do with its football largess.
