I mean, you figs can sit there and deny it if you want.

LSU was beginning to turn the Tide before Saban came back. The Tigers had won 5 straight leading into Sabans first year.

Then all of a sudden the coach that won LSU a Natty had Bama rolling.

All the fricking hype this game generates every single year. Game of the century? The rematch natty? Tua vs Burrow, Yeldon Screen Pass,

Alabama has been a thorn in LSUs side for YEARS now and they are finally fighting back again under a non retard HC.

frick yeah it's a rivalry. It's no Iron Bowl , but that game is circled on a lot of calendars every year.

When Saban leaves , maybe it'll die down but I doubt it. Brian Kelly has had some monster recruiting bombs lately. And Bama is Bama.

It'll be a good game for the foreseeable future. The media and the casual fans love that shite, and the GOTC was probably the most insane week of hype I've ever seen.

I think a lot of this came from 2011 as a whole. It was LSU, Alabama , and then someone the frick else WAYYYYYYY down the list.

Hell yeah

Since 1895, and doing a solid job with a 55–27–5 record to boot.

ETA: Let’s go with 1903 since that was Bamas first win.

Tennessee and Auburn have more relevance to the fans. LSU has been more relevant as competitor for the division and conference for the last 2 decades. It would stop being a rivalry if LSU went off the rails for a prolonged period. There isn’t the multigenerational hate from the Bama fanbase to fuel a rivalry when the team is bad. Vols were awful for over a decade and winning TSIO was still a big one.

When Bryant's assistant became the head coach at LSU, and Bryant put LSU on Alabama's schedule every year.

I get that.

However, that hate started somewhere. And many years from now, Alabama LSU WILL be like that.

The catalyst was Saban going to Bama. We weren't alive for the beginning of the rivalries we know today.

But years from now, it'll be talked about the same. Remember, LSU wasn't ever "good" consistently until the 2000s.

Just because it isn't an old rivalry now, doesn't mean it won't be later. And I think it will.

Also, LSU and Bama being permanent opponents is a step in that direction.

Not even a knock on Bama, when Saban leaves and with NIL, you guys aren't going to dominate LSU like back in the day.

There's a lot of smoke to this fire.

Alabama would play LSU for homecoming back in the 90’s. It was never a hateful event. Nick Saban came along to LSU and Bama tried LSU on homecoming one last time and LSU straight up beat Alabama’s arse. I mean LSU broke a few Conference records that day. So that happened, then in 2002 Bama went down to Baton Rouge and shut out the Tigers 31-0 and that was a lot of fun. It was ominous because the Tide’s program was about to be possibly shut down and most of us knew it, but “Hey LSU maybe Bama can buy you some offense” was the joke of the night.. Then Alabama was knocked into a coma until 2007. That’s when the true hatefulness began between UA and LSU. I expect it to last for a long time even after Saban leaves because it’s not like these two programs are ever going to be too friendly ever again. It’s a rivalry now.

Bama has been a thorn in LSU’s side? More like a .300 Weatherby Magnum to the side, they’ve killed yall, as well as everyone else.

Right, I’m just pointing out that the competitive rivalry is just that now. I don’t think it has gone on quite long enough to survive a prolonged period of non-factor LSU teams.

I would point to Florida. Over the Spurrier era through Tim Tebow, Florida was something approximating what Alabama has with LSU now. There was growing animosity because we kept on meeting up with these guys in relevant games.

Not that we act like Florida is Vanderbilt now, but the same juice just ain’t there anymore. Alabama hasn’t lost to Florida since Tebow took over the 4th quarter of the 2008 SECCG. 2009 SECCG is one of the most important wins of the Saban era. The other matchups? Not hardly the same since the overhyped 2010 game that turned into boa constrictor affair at the hands of Alabama.

I go way back in the Tiger vs Bama series. This game was always one of the toughest wins on our schedule.Cholly Mac was a great HC for LSU but he just couldn't find a way to beat the Bear.I'm happy to say I was in Death Valley when we finally beat Bama 20-15 in the last year of the Bear.
I believe in Coach Kelly ability to Win N C (s) but my only concern is his offensive philosophy over a defensive mind set ...we shall see.

LSU wasn't turning squat. The NCAA had done that. Gosh how people .."conveniently".. forget this. Auburn, UT, hell even Ms State and Arkie went on streaks against Bama.

It's a big game, nothing more. Yall please stop begging us. It looks so pathetic. We also don't have rivalries with Ole Miss, Arkie and State but they don't constantly yell, Bama, look at us, look at us.
Again, historically, you are closer to being an Auburn than being an Alabama. Bama is there with USC, OU, Ohio St, those guys.

The hype is not nearly as big you think it is outside of Louisiana where it's the Super Bowl. Game of the Century? There have been like 10 of those with various universities playing in them so it wasn't anything more than a media ploy like the others for money. The rematch Natty? Ok, so what? Yeldon screen pass? great play but it was one in a lot that game. That play doesn't even register on the 100 greatest plays in Bama history. It's bigger to LSU fans than Bama fans.

Since LSU is so big into asterisks there ought to be one by 03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 due to those BS sanctions the NCAA laid on us.

That game was in Legion Field. Bear's last loss in Baton Rouge was in 1970.
