In this instance, correlation does equal causation.
People hate Bama because it has been the gold standard for a football program over the course of its history. Enter Saban with his oderint dum metuant attitude, and the image of the already spoiled, fat, happy, and arrogant fan base worsens tenfold. It eats other teams alive that Alabama has managed to secure two of the best CFB coaches of all-time. And, many Bama fans simply take it for granted. There are teams that would happily trade for the decade between Stallings and Saban. In spite of it being the second worst period in Bama football history, Bama still had 3 x 10 win seasons and an SEC Championship.
People hate Auburn because Auburn is awful. Just plain awful. They are reduced to living in Bama's shadow and forever trying to act as if the two programs are on equal historic footing. They are unworthy of anything decent that comes their way. They are the epitome of little brother syndrome. They sell their souls and sacrifice a goat every 3-4 years toward a successful season and are then content to bottom out for 1-2 years as one of the worst teams in the West, so long as they beat Bama in that up year(s).
