MetroGatorFan,
If I recall correctly, the gators won the SEC in 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1995. So you need to add 4 SEC championships to your list. Quite an impressive run for the gators from 1991 to 2009. I would count that 2009 season because Gators were most likely at least the second best team in the country that year. We won’t speak of the years that followed. In all seriousness, just about everyone in the SEC would trade results with Florida during that time.

Edit to add that Florida was the SEC east division winner/co-winner in 15 of those seasons between 1992 and 2009.

And screwed out of an SEC title in 90 over an allegation in 89 that was never proven.

I’ve always credited Spurrier for the SEC’s rejuvenation. His fun and gun offense made SEC teams start reconsidering their heavy run-oriented offenses. I was one of the very few LSU fans who loved Spurrier, even though he kicked our asses up and down the field in the early 90s.

For Vandy it would be 1901-1912. Went 87-13-6, outscored opponents 3183-295 with 70/96 games being shutouts, and 8 conference titles.

The days of 2-way players and "short punt" offenses were kind to VU.

Gators won Football & Basketball NCs in the same year. This is more impressive.

No Harvin in 2009. He didn't play against Alabama in 2008, either.

I don't know if we could've beaten Texas or not because we didn't have the punishing ground game Bama did.

What the hell is this ? You guys got a free natty because Colt got a fluke injury. We'd have absolutely stomped you with a healthy Colt. Saban was so terrified of falling behind he did that fake punt 2 minutes in the game. That's A LOT of respect for Colt and our offense.

Bama was not the best defense we played that year by a long shot. Nebraska's was legitimately a tier above yours.

Oh this myth again. PJ Fitzgerald read the wrong signal and ran the fake. It was never called.

Did Colt also play on defense?

It was in the Alabama gameplan to go for fake punts against Texas. (Because you were afraid of our offense and falling behind)

quote:

Saban explained that Alabama had noticed in game preparation that Texas often didn't cover the gunners, "sort of daring you to throw the ball to the guy."

"Well, we actually made Julio Jones the gunner into the boundary so we could throw the ball to him. And he got hurt on the play before that punt, and we had a freshman who has turned out to be a pretty good player in the meantime, Dre Kirkpatrick, who was in there, and he didn't really run the pass pattern."

That Alabama offense was nothing potent. Greg McElroy was gimpy. If they fell behind, they lost. Gilbert had 5 turnovers (which was nothing special as we saw in Texas's 2010 season) and Alabama only put up 37.

Gilbert threw 5 picks against Kansas St in 2010 and they put up 39.

1971-1979 97-11 3 national titles 8 sec titles

So we should claim that we would’ve beaten Tejas’ arse much worse if we had a healthy SECCG MVP QB. That pretty much negates your silly little Colt McCoy theory.

That pussy McCoy totally embodies Tejas Football, then and now.

I guess he doesn't know that UF had an even better defense than Texas yet y'all ran all over us.
