Bryant’s run in the 1970’s will never be matched.

What has the SEC done?

What can a conference do? Everyone plays the same number of home and away games. (except for the couple of neutral site conference games)
The conference isn't stopping any school from trying to become better. Didn't stop aTm from throwing $75 M at Jimbo. Didn't stop Auburn from throwing $49 M at Gus. (maybe they should have)
The only thing I could think the conference could try is to set the next year's schedules based on this year's standings.
Make West 1 play East 1, West 2 play East 2, etc. as the ninth conference game. Adjust the pairings if it conflicts with already scheduled games.

They won't, though. The obvious point is that the conference would now be going out of its way to make sure at least one elite team takes a regular season conference loss, screwing up their CFP potential and possible eliminating them from an SECCG that could (as would have been the case this year) ensure a team's selection to the top 4.

The other reason is that most of the advocates for 9 game conference schedules are interested in the fact that it allows cross-divisional teams to play more often in a cycle. This proposal could mean that Bama only plays Vandy, for instance, at the same rate they do now, i.e. once every 7 years, since the odds of us being finishing on the same level as Bama are fairly small.

SEC was much weaker in the 70's. What Saban has done the past 12 years tops what Bear did in his final 12 years. However, I still think Bear's entire career tops Saban's, albeit incomplete.

I hate it when people make up statistics. 90%?? I would have even let you slide with 30%, but not 90. Most Bama fans realize what we have right now and that it’ll never be the same again in our lifetimes once Saban leaves.

You do realize that the rant represents a very minute portion of a fan base, right?

The title of the thread is 4/5. Spurrier won 5/6, just meant Saban wins next year and he matches 5/6. I didn’t know Bryant’s years off the top of my head, so I didn’t know if he had a better run of X/Y years

How about ensuring a level playing field in recruiting.

The ncaa and SEC destroys an Ole Miss and praises Bama.

Same with Kentucky in basketball.

Let’s see what basketball programs take a hit after this FBI investigation.

We all know what North Carolina already got away with.

4th & 12 and the missed chip shot had more to do with it than Providence, trust me.

Of course Alabama out gaining UGA 263 to 113 after the missed field goal had nothing to do with it.

You can't bring parity to something that is simply better than the others without intentionally handicapping the thing that is better so that the field is even. College football would die if it intentionally handicapped Bama, fans would no longer watch because it would be fixed, I mean really fixed, not this LSU tin foil hat ref bullshite.

Little did we know that we should have thanked him for keeping Bama away from some Nebraska humiliations

Not trying to be a butt but when you have a 6 loss team in the playoff or a 6-6 team leading the division you have real problems. NFL is not the route I want college to go to.

NFL realized many years ago that parity is a good thing

There are already a hundred rules to create parity in college football. Not one school's fault they're still better.

The SECCG makes matching Bryant’s run nowadays nearly impossible. But, if the rules now were the same as the rules then, I’m guessing without looking it up that Bama would have won at least a share of the conference title every year since 2008 with the exceptions of 2010 and 2011. That’s pretty close.

Y'all can thank Auburn or it would be 7 in a row. Why can't the rest of you do your part every now and again?

Without the SECCG, Saban would have won or shared the title in:
2008 (Won)
2009 (Shared w/ Florida)
2012 (Shared w/ Georgia)
2013 (Shared w/ Auburn)
2014 (Won)
2015 (Shared w/ Florida)
2016 (Won)
2017 (Shared w/ Georgia & Auburn)

Pretty sure in the old days the head-to-head determined the team that got to play in the Sugar Bowl.

The two expansions means that there would be a lot more shared championships without a championship game. We would have to go down to only 1 or 2 OOC games to try and make sure that didn't happen as often.

Did you know Stallings and Bama was on the other side of that field in

92,93,94,and 96? He only beat Steve once but he was still doing pretty good.

I did know that, I'm a Bama fan. I went to the '92 championship as well as the Sugar Bowl that year.
