The most amazing fact about Auburn football is that they have had back to back 10 win seasons just once in program history. In 1988 and 1989 Pat Dye went 10-2 both seasons. That’s it. That is the only time Auburn has won 10 or more games in back to back seasons.

youd think Bama would dominate them the same way UGa has dominated GA Tech, or Michigan dominated Michigan State, or Oklahoma dominated Oklahoma State

Most of your coaches have practiced and prepared all season for the Iron Bowl. That is why Auburn has had a surprising amount of success against Alabama. And stunk it up the rest of the season on a regular basis.
2023 was a great example. Auburn was looking ahead to Alabama and got dominated by New Mexico State 31-10 in Jordan-Hare. Their very next game was the Iron Bowl where Alabama needed the miracle 4th and 31 play to beat Auburn.
Auburn coaches know they can go 6-6 or 7-5 and be safe for many seasons as long as they beat Alabama half the time.
If you offer Auburn 5 regular season losses in exchange for an Iron Bowl win they take that deal every time. That strategy that has led to surprising success in the Iron Bowl has also led to only having back to back 10 win seasons once in program history.
Wasn’t Golesh already pumping in Alabama/Iron Bowl noise at some of his spring practices?

But there’s some version of this thread every year. And that goes back into the Saban era as well. And it routinely proves to be proven wrong.
