Well, in fairness to the other side, tickfaw is basically a functional retard so he's not exactly an accurate representation of that side of the argument.

quote:Um, no... you missed by a few years. Skip came to LSU in the mid-80s and somehow figured out how to make it marketable (something only Miss State had previously done). The true turning point was late 80's, with the Ben McDonald-led teams; Big Ben went on to be the #1 pick in the MLB draft.
Interestingly, the rise in popularity of LSU fans with their naseball program, coincided with their football program javing one of the worste decades in SEC history, while its nefore uncared about baseball team jad the best decade in SEC history.
For them it was like, "hey, at least were good at something, even if it just baseball."
Basically, we figured out
a) it's a damn good opportunity for tailgaiting (brings the fans)
b) we're geographically inclined to have a good home-field experience during the season (brings the recruits)
c) outside of a few select schools, there wasn't a lot of competition in the college game for a program like LSU to step in and take over. You had Miami and Fla St, you had Texas and A&M, and a number of California schools.
So Skip beat the rest of the SEC to the punch, although Georgia had their chances too. But just like other sports, UGA let things slide when they could have built a dynasty (no offense to the Dawgs, but it seems like that's their M. O.).

But that is exactly what you had in mind when you started this thread. I just don't understand people getting what they intended and then crying about it. Passive-aggressive behavior is genetic to certain fanbases and you just might be the king of it.

quote:Hell, I'll say it now. If UA won 10 CWS titles, I still wouldn't watch a game. There's a better chance of me going to a women's basketball game than a baseball game.
Btw, in case the slower Bama fans didn't figure it out, this is for the fans that say "I wouldn't care about baseball if my team won 10 CWS titles" or other bullshite like that.

Not a Bama fan... But this x1000.
Baseball is just an awful sport to watch. Puts me to sleep faster than bowling on a Sunday afternoon. The only time ill watch is in the World Series (MLB) if its a tight series. So I'm certainly not going to watch some shitty college teams play. Don't blame Bama fans at all - the national college baseball tv ratings and attendance speak for themselves.

Why, did LSU win the championship this year?
(I don't know because we were put out and haven't kept up with it since we were out.)
Most fans throw the "I don't care about baseball" excuse because they being hassled about losing a game or being put out. Especially if your team is put out early.
Fact of the matter is baseball isn't as big as football (notice the lack of 50 page baseball arguments on the rant) and if your team loses it doesn't bother you as much as football. That's why you don't see anyone post a baseball score like 9-6 or 21-0, or the date of the game like 1/9.
But if BAMA got on a run and made it to the CWS, or won it, then yes we would brag. But so would anybody else. Also the earlier you get put out the less it stings, or the farther you make it before you lose the more it stings because you are then more emotionally attached.
Really the same could be said for football fans if they have a shitty year. Take Auburn for example, they had a bad year and after they saw they were having a bad year you couldn't trash talk them as much because they became emotionally detached from their team and were like "I don't care , I'm just ready for this shitty season to be over". You see the IDK thing is just a defensive response, MOST of the time.
As a general rule its pretty damn hard to brag when you lose.

Lol...Bama "quit caring" about baseball on 6-7-1997 when LSU embarrassed the #1 ranked Tide to win the CWS.
More like in 1999 when we lost to Miami in the CWS semifinal. Or maybe 2006 when Jim Wells last great team choked against UNC in the Super Regional.

Is that what people will say about LSU football in another decade?
You stopped caring when we stomped you 21-0?

No, I personally wouldn't. I barely watch the Braves.
As an alum I went to one game my entire college career, and it was extremely boring. Hell, softball is more exciting. I don't know UA's baseball history, nor their current situation. If they have success than that's great. I'm just not interested. If LSU fans want to cling to college baseball that's fine.
Now if we had success in Bball then I would brag.

Little faster paced, fewer innings, one hit can make a bigger difference, etc.

not true.
I may not watch every LSU sport, but my entire family watches EVERYTHING LSU. And I watch the bulk of LSU sports.
And I know a lot of other LSU fans who do the same. I also know a ton of Vandy and UT fans since I'm from Nashville and they certainly follow more than just football.
I can't count on both hands and feet I've seen Bama posters on here try to put down other athletics.

you don't see LSU fans bashing the one or two sports we aren't good in, that's the difference.
