And that leaves Goff and LaTech with a huge problem....LaTech has no contract with Goff / no buyout - so they have considered him an Alabama employee as of last night - LaTech has their next coach lined up....Waiting again on Bama.....
.....a complete cluster for all parties and I am starting to point my finger at UA as the originator of these problems....or Goff is the patsy for the bigger name.
Get the man the paperwork and get his arse on a plane to Bama.....how hard can it be Alabama?

Except that it's beening done at Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Academia needs to help baseball with scholarships, to offset the lottery states.

He ignores that in every baseball thread. It isn't like Alabama and Mississippi are the minority. There are actually only 10 or so states that have any form of lottery scholarship.

Manieri should have been fired for losing 2 to a team full of walk-ons which is basically what Bama is. Ask Skip where LSU would be without the lottery.
Always find away to take a shot at LSU. Well done.

MSU's new pitching coach has a better head coaching resume than Alabamas new head coach.

What people forget or don't understand about the scholarship situation, it goes way beyond lotteries.
Ole Miss and State can waive out of of state tuition rates to kids that meet certain academic requirements---and they do this for regular students not just student-athletes.
Alabama, and Auburn as well, don't have the same issues or don't want to eat that tuition money.

He was at Kentucky 8 years and went 54-65 in the SEC his last 4 years there.
So, I mean, not really. He was basically Gaspard of the great white north.

You guys should just start off with option D in sports other than football. Would streamline the process.

Rather aim high and work our way down than settle for shite from day 1.
We seem to be doing ok in other sports. We'll see how this one works out.

Kentucky is an incredibly hard to place to win.
Henderson was/is a good coach,
so was Gaspard
better than their W/L records indicate, that is.

What says Gaspard is a good coach? He took an incredible stable, consistent program at Northwestern State and drove them into mediocrity after 3 great coaches built a consistent winner over the course of a decade.

Yeah I am surprised Gaspard has not been hired by someone to be an assistant. I guess he is taking some time off.

His letter and interviews suggest, to me at least, that he is evaluating things in light of his family and might rather be a scout or something else that doesn't dominate his time like being an assistant or head coach does.
But that's just me reading between the lines.

I wonder if Goff is going to hit the JUCOS hard for Alabama. Seems to be his MO.

I think that Alabama's unique situation with scholarships and some of the additional state/university restrictions means that you have to have a coach who is creative in figuring out ways to put together a roster, so that wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah that's interest and concern...is he going to try to come in get all his own guys in quickly?
I watched his press conference from when he was hired at LA Tech just two years ago--one of the first thing he mentioned was establishing contacts with HS coaches in Louisiana and scouts...
then he goes and signs 21 JUCO players.
NOT A SINGLE TRUE FRESHMAN ON THEIR ROSTER THIS YEAR
I'm all for singing JUCO kids---that was a main criticism I had of Gaspard and staff,,,took too many kids out of HS that should have been at JUCO first, if 'Bama/SEC ever, and barely took JUCO kids.
Goff, at least at LA Tech, was the opposite extreme.
Posted on 6/17/16 at 11:28 am to Tom Haverford
Well I think he did it at LA Tech to that extreme because he wanted a quick turnaround and he wanted to get hired away. Not sure if he will go for such a quick fix at a more prestigious job.

I thought that too and I hope you're right and that was the situation. I don't think he did so at Campbell, of course Campbell is nothing like Alabama/SEC.
Alabama could pay whomever you think the best coach in the country is (McDonnell/Maineiri/O'Sullivan/O'Connor/etc) $2M a year and we're going to have an extremely tough time consistently being one of the top programs. Some 'Bama fans don't like to hear that, or see it is as an excuse, but it's just reality.
I think we're capable of competing for Championships every couple years, but also having a really bad season every 3-4 years. It's extremely tough to field consistent and competitive teams at this level, at Alabama.
Florida, LSU, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, South Carolina. That's over half the conference that is a better job than Alabama.
