How many times have they beaten a #1 team at home? I’m sure they haven’t had a whole lot of opportunities to play a #1 at home. I think they only #1 team to lose in Bryant Denny in the last 20 years was Miss St, 2014.

Jorts don't look like they'd offer much flexibility and Alabama fans are too fat to storm the field.
West Virginia - 39.7%
Arkansas - 37.4%
Oklahoma - 36.8%
Kentucky - 36.5%
Tennessee - 36.5%
Alabama - 36.1%
Michigan - 36.0%
Louisiana - 35.9%
Looks like a lot of SEC folks could push away from the table a little quicker!

You're right. I was a kid, but I remember Bama fans storming the field and being arrested at that 1990 Iron Bowl. Granted, it wasn't thousands of fans, but it was a lot.

A number of Alabama fans stormed Legion Field after the 1985 Iron Bowl; the game Alabama won with “The Kick”. The way Birmingham PD used their clubs would have made Rodney King blush. There was a pretty big initial rush of people onto the field and some made it successfully to mid field. But not many; most ended up bloody and cuffed or hogtied on their stomachs along the fence. Many other’s were headed down the stadium steps with plans to run onto the field as well. But after they saw all the casualties from the first wave they changed their minds.

Not so. Florida stormed the field in 1984. After years of frustration and while undergoing NCAA investigation UF managed a win over UGA. It was such a big deal to those wearing orange that the mayor of Jacksonville said the city would pay for the goal posts every year if the Gators could do this
again. He was fine with rushing the field until the following year when a couple dozen UGA fans went on the field after a big win. Cops beat the kids with billy clubs and arrested them. I heard it upset Vince Dooley so much he threatened to move the game out of Jax. Apologies were quickly given

Not true for baseball. Florida fans have come on the field after a game there

Over a top 20 ranked and as usual incredibly overrated Texas squad who was clearly “broke” by Arkansas…as has been the case for most of the past 20 years….

It must be exhausting being such a homer. That is not exactly how it happened. Do you work for the press?
Florida-Georgia History
quote:
Alcohol-related incidents in the 1980s nearly brought an end to the tradition. In 1984 Florida fans, euphoric and liquored up after a 27-0 victory that ended a 6-game Georgia winning streak, stormed the field and tore down the goalposts. In 1985, after Georgia upset the #1-ranked Gators 24-3, Bulldogs fans reenacted the feat and toppled the goalposts again in a frenzy that led to 65 arrests. With the current contract to play in Jacksonville coming to an end, both universities threatened not to renew if the havoc continued the next season. Subsequently, the City of Jacksonville cracked down on drinking in the stadium and had police patrol the field, stands and bathrooms to prevent a repeat. In an amusing effort to discourage fans from storming the goalposts again, the city offered them as trophies to the winner. Not caring to lug them back to their campuses, neither school ever claimed the prize. These events also brought an end to official use of the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” moniker by both the schools and the city.

Surprised more Alabama fans don’t recall this. It was included in the pregame tRaDiTioN video for years and years

Florida stormed the field at Half arse u in 1982.They tore down a goal post and it took tear gas to disperse the crowd. Pretty ballsy.
I wish football was still like that. I hate how they are trying to sanitize the atmospheres

Georgia did it vs. Tennessee as you mentioned in the same year. Tennessee was 2-3. Stupid
it definitely wasn't stupid adn their record was irrelevant. They were also only 1 year and a couple games removed rom being national champs.

Don't care how long the streak was. Have some pride.
it's easy to say that now in the postiion we're currently in. When yu've lost 9 in a row to someone and are used to 8 win seasons, mixed in wiht a few losing seasons recnetly to boot, that win was gigantic. I couldn't be more proud of our fans that day and am glad I was a part of it. It's also one of the most underrated field rushes of all time simply becuase it was before social media and 24/7 coverage of everythign all the time. We had a quarter of the field covered with over a minute to paly and they eventually just said frick it and let people go with time still on teh clock. If a similar situation happened today it'd be talked about for years. Hell when tim wansley picked off the ball with a minut eand half left he had about 20 fans running right there behidn him

I was there both years. I saw Georgia kids getting beaten and arrested for the very thing UF fans were celebrated for the former year. Georgia was upset and there was a real possibility that Georgia would refuse to continue to come to Jax.
It’s true that alcohol was a big problem before the Gators rushed the field in 84. One outcome of the new rules was tighter restrictions on drinking and no more checkerboarding of the stands- who was the idiot thought up this idea and deemed it a good idea? Fights were common in the stands. Especially along the borders where UGA fans and UF fan sections abutted. Alcohol was everywhere and you could literally smell it in the air. When Georgia beat the Gators in 1980 UGA players reported literally being bathed in bourbon and Coke as they ran into the tunnel after the game . Georgia fans had thrown their cups into the air when Lindsay Scott broke the Gators hearts and the liquor flowed down the stadium steps like a river and into the tunnel.
There was an apology from the Gator Bowl and the city of Jax
for the unequal treatment of fans in 84 and 85. If there had not been there was little chance that Georgia would have agreed to continue to come to Jax.
There is now a renewed push by a majority of UGA fans and athletic officials to move the game to home and home. Ive loved going to Jax and enjoying a week of partying on the Georgia coast. Haven’t missed but one game in 49 years but I’m ready to move on.
It’s not a good experience anymore. Traffic is horrible with extremely poor traffic management, it takes forever to get thru the gates and into a stadium that is showing it’s age, concessions are slow and the employees surly. To get a parking pass within a mile of the stadium it’s over $100 for a reserved parking place that’s so tight it’s hard to open your car door to get out of the dang car. After the game you aren’t allowed to go north from these lots for 2-3 hours. It’s become too much of a hassle to attend games here. It’s not much of a rivalry anymore so it hardly seems worth all the hassle and expense. Jax improves conditions when it’s time for contract renewals. At least until the contract is signed and then it’s back to the normal chaos again.
Give me Athens every other year and the Gators can do what ever they please in their year.

Michael Adams, Georgias former despised president, is the guy who started all the nonsense about not calling it the “worlds largest outdoor cocktail party”
anymore. I’ve always called it that and always will.

That was a great night. Partied in downtown Athens until after 5 am. The goalposts were paraded thru downtown for hours.

Tearing down goalposts shows you are inferior historically. It is what it is. There's a reason why Bama has never done it.
UF is not that great historically, just a great two decade run, but I give them props for not doing it.
And I have been following UGA football since I was 7 starting in 1980 when a certain RB graduated from my hometown high school and chose to go there. I said it was stupid in 2000. I still say it's stupid now. That wasn't that great of a UT team we beat. Not even close to the Bama team UT beat this year.
