If this SEC office had balls they’d do this. This is what happens when you cry so much about keeping rivalries intact and always causing scheduling issues. Bama & Auburn want to keep the iron bowl and their rivalries with UGA and Tennessee. Ok, you can keep them but you’re not getting Vandy or Mississippi St. as your 3rd opponent.
This won’t happen though. They’re going to let Bama have at least 1 easy permanent opponent.
The reality is other teams need 3 permanent opponents too. It's not just about making it tough for Bama or Auburn or UGA. It's about logistically setting up a schedule that can work.

wait.............what?
Arkansas/LSU goes back just as far as AU/LSU. Arkansas/LSU have played each other more than AU/LSU. Since entering the SEC, Arkansas/LSU played each other on the last game of the season from 1992 (when Arkansas joined SEC) until recently. Battle for the Boot since ‘96.

No one should get Vandy as a permanent team. They need to be a floater for everyone.

Everyone needs 3 permanent opponents. That means someone has to have games against Vandy, UK, SC, MSU, Mizzou, etc.
Think of it as you get two games that you want and you suffer through whoever for the 3rd.

If there are going to be three permanent rivals, the 3rd one that makes the most sense for Alabama is Mississippi State. Aside from being the two closest schools in the conference...less than 90 miles apart...the only team Alabama has played more than the 103 games against MSU is Tennessee at 104 games.

Yes, great graphic
Best visual so far
Would be nice to have notes space on the far right for other long term games
Auburn / Clemson
Georgia / Clemson
SC / UNC
UF / Miami
VU / WF
MU / ku
TAMU / App State

Screw that.
Auburn has been dealing with that lack of balance for too long. We can lose LSU. I don't think that a "rivalry" that's super important to either side. It should be a Miss team or Vandy.
That said, they're probably right.
And by the way, THIS Auburn fan would be A-Ok with losing BOTH the "traditional" rivalries. They're both poisonous (literally, in one case) hate fests, anyway. I'd rather play Florida and UT every year.

Don’t blame you since we have won 3 out of the last 5 and 2 in a row

Think TV matchups that college football fans nationwide want to see. Hence Bama - Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU.
Top tier teams will have a more difficult schedule than the lower tier teams.

Auburn would get royally fricked in this scenario, I can’t imagine they do that to them.

That's kind of the history of the SEC and Auburn though. I'd expect it.

We really fricked ourselves scheduling UCF/FSU/Miami all in the same season now that OU and Texas are joining next year. So we either bite the bullet and play all 12 games against P5 opponents or we get called cowards for dropping UCF.

Realistically, who’s gonna really care that you guys dropped UCF?

Well it'll either be them or Miami. We're scheduled to play both + FSU in 2024. Unless the SEC somehow stays at 8 games.
The irony being that both FSU and Miami had the chance to join back in 90 and chickened out.

Hopefully. I am more confident that it will than I have been in years.

This is the Pandora's box
If we open it and see history and cross conference imbalances recognized it will be good
If we open it and ESPN has set the rivals, we are all going down the rabbit hole.
