1. Our pass rush wasn't anything special last year. 2. Cody took up 2 blockers. Chapman only takes up 1. 3. Upshaw is a DE. Not a linebacker. 4. Hightower's knee won't be back to what it was before his injury until next season. 5. Arenas was one of the best pass rushers in the country out of the secondary. 6. Dareus isn't a great pass rusher like a lot of people thought.
7. Washington and Deaderick were really underrated, as was Drew Davis and Mike Johnson.

He's just got a strange love affair for a guy that is proving that he may not be the guy for the future. I think Sims will push him hard this summer, maybe even be our starter next year.

Deaderick is starting for New England right now.

Dang, Lowery almost had an INT there.

He helped create the third and long situations that allowed Alabama to blitz from the Jack and Star.
The big problems with this year's passing defense is:
a) Our outside pass rushers just aren't very good and Dareus hasn't been fully healthy all year. We can't create pressure without blitzing.
and
b) Smart isn't calling as many blitzes this year because he doesn't want to leave our young corners on an island. That gives opposing defenses more time to throw the ball.

i think our d next year will be better making aj's mistakes hurt less. i think the O will be better if the running backs stay healthy.

According to rivals, he weighs 330. How many defensive tackles who weigh that much are quick and agile enough to wreak havoc in the opposing team's backfield? Haloti Ngata and that's pretty much it.
Cody was 350-360. Does he look anything like Mt. Cody?

I haven't paid attention, but that is awesome. I remember though last year, many including myself were thinking Dareus should play every down. Now I know that his success could have been due to the opposing O-line having to deal with Washington, Cody and Deaderick every play.
They were much better at containment last year.

No. Williams isn't fat at all. He's just fricking huge.

That makes him the perfect NT for this defense. And does McElwain ever call a play for a pass beyond five yards from the line of scrimmage?
