I just got done posting our DLine was the only question mark on defense? Are you reading all of my posts or nit picking what you want? Our corners are good. Linebackers are great. Our Dline is unknown

exactly your Dline is a question mark. Did you understand my comment about your secondary GREATLY benefiting last year from that GREAT pass rush from that GREAT Dline that is no longer there.

It's easy to play pass "D" when the QB is running for his life. Much more difficult when the QB can sit in pocket and survey the field and go through his progressions.

You have no idea what you are talking about with state’s secondary but since you admit to it I will fill you in. Cam Dantzler will be one of if not the best corner in the SEC. Smitherman actually played more reps than Jamal Peters last year and was one of the highest rated corners in the country last year in advanced metrics. Brian Cole was the starter at nickel last year and was injured but returns and will play safety. Landrews was his backup and was injured but he also returns. Marcus Murphy was the main guy to take both of their spots after they went down (yes we had the best defense in the nation while playing a 3rd string defensive back) and he will return as a starter in the secondary. CJ Morgan platooned in the defensive backfield when we had injuries as well.

Remember when State was loaded last year and they were supposed to win 10 games? I do...

Based on the draft they should have won at least 9 with who they had, plus a bowl win.

They kinda were loaded, they just squandered it.

While Bama is certainly the odds on favorite, it's not inevitable.
Moo U could finish third but it's more than likely to finish fourth behind the Tide, LSU and aTm or tied with aTm for third.

j peters had 9 starts with 33 tkls to smitherman's 2 starts and 23 tkls. I find it hard to believe that smitherman had more snaps than peters.

cole the starting nickel was in on 11 tkls in '18 with four games started

landrews had a solid season, 3 starts and 21 tkls. He was a juco last year so, this will only be his second year in the system.

morgan actually had 3 starts with 20 tkls.

murphy played in 12 games with all of 7 tkls.

OK numbers returning but, doubt they will turn out to be one of the best secondaries in the SEC.

I think state fans are GREATLY underestimating the effect that GREAT pass rush last year had on their pass defense numbers.

Yes they did. You just weren't paying attention because it was LSU.

Certainly agree with that. A strong DL makes the guys behind them much better.

Our DL will still be very good this year. Not great and will have less depth but there is a good core returning that are good players as well.

Nobody is overestimating them. They will be below last year’s level but the drop off will not be dramatic. Of course injuries can affect that as well. We will see.

Yep. It's not like Simmons and Sweat played every defensive snap. Our new 2019 starters played plenty for State's 2018 #1 defense.

how often have you seen two Dlinemen in top five of team in tackles?

Can you provide names as to who might be in the Dline two deep?

Dline towards bottom third of sec.

Simply not true. You're assuming that just because we lost Sweat and Simmons.

Our d-line actually rotated in new players on every down because of how deep we were last year. Chauncey Rivers, Lee Autry, Fletcher Adams, Kobe Jones, and Marquiss Spencer all got significant playing time last year and were very good. King Ani, Jaden Crumedy, and Fabien Lovett are all highly talented incoming freshmen whom I expect to play important roles this season.

I can't name a single DB that plays for MSU. That would be like me claiming A&M has the best secondary - a stupid claim.
