Maybe counting "stars" is a questionable way of analyzing a team's potential? About 5 years ago I ran a season long spradsheet and discovered that there was no statistical advantage if two teams were within 10 recruit-ranking places of each other... and not a particularly significant advantage at 20 places.

I then abandoned any thought of using "team strength based on 'stars'" as a guide to bet college football.
