I want to know the difference between Deon Sanders - who is the head coach but also works with Barstool Sports and him using them to give the #1 player a 7 figure deal.. But lets say Nick Saban - who owns a Mercedes Dealership using that to do the same thing? Can Nick Saban start offering NIL deals out too? I feel like this could get real messy. Thoughts?

Not sure

I do think there needs to be a low cap on offering NIL to HS kids.

You blow up and become a star, get your $$$

Until then…

It’s about to get real stupid

I know I guess I'm saying - why wouldn't every coach just start a business and start forking money out from boosters to land whatever recruit they want. This is where I think shite is going to get real bad

I think the Saban/Mercedes thing was brought up as an example a few times in questions about the NIL stuff and the answer was always explicitly no.

However, with this Barstool/Deion thing.....who knows.

What's in it for the Deon Sanders business or Saban's business? Are these shell businesses intended to pay players or to make a profit selling stuff? Seven figures has to come from somewhere. Remember National Championships are for bragging rights and not for infusion of cash into a program. And the SEC shares revenue with the Natty winner getting a couple of million extra.

In theory - the school isn't allowed to be directly involved.

In practice ? We're back to the booster networks and hundred dollar handshakes, with buffers protecting the school.

In application ? Certain folks are going to cry, because writing a seven figure check to the dean should mean something - and this low brow frick paying a player less than a hundred an hour to show up and do some tedious job shouldn't have a seat at the table. And sure as Hell shouldn't have that level of access.

Degree of Sepúlveda.

But that seems to be easily maneuvered around.

It’s already happening and will happen more. This is just the beginning

I mean look at Hunter. Barstool just blatantly bought him for Deion and who is going to do anything about it?

Do you go to Vanderbilt? I'm surprised you don't know. You are kidding, I know.

If this is case it's against NIL rules.

You cannot use NIL funds to recruit or entice players.

ETA Three schools are currently being investigated for NIL violations.

Exactly so why can Deon do it? It's literally the same concept.

Difference #1: Sanders doesn't own Barstool Sports. There's at least two levels of separation between the coach and the business.

Difference #2: There is a noticeable benefit that the company receives from the player advertising on their behalf.

Alright - with that idea why wouldn't schools set up deals with Barstool and lets say Outkick and have a coach do a podcast like Deon and in return they buy the players? Either way this is not what "NIL" was intended to do. I am all for players making money off their name - but when coaches get involved with a business they work with - that is just bullshite

Also - would Barstool have done this if the kid stayed at FSU and didn't play for Primetime? Absolutely not
