Very, very good post! That explanation has been a long time coming, and you worded it perfectly.

Not sure about its other programs but the Darla Moore School of Business has a top rated international business program. #1 for the past 16 years if you put any weight into those US news rankings.

I have a new found respect for you knowing what you do for a living and what it took to get that particular degree. My Auburn friend was a very popular guy (as far from a nerd as you could get). He slayed pus## while in college (and STILL does to this day btw...he's single) and was an all around great guy. His chemical engineering degree was demanding to the point where he missed out on some Friday night patries due to studying. My Alabama roommate who eventually became his boss for a couple of years was also a chemical engineering major. He described one of his main classes and it was the most insane over the top kick in the nuts class I had ever heard of. That major is off the charts difficult after watching what they had to do to get their degrees so I have a new respect for what it took for you to get your degree.

I was speaking/advising a student recently who is in engineering but considering a change to ChemE.
I asked... what is your goal? "A good career with earning potential."
Then go get your ChemE degree and go into technical sales and solutions. A young lady with an outgoing personality and a technical background... jeez, the sky is the limit and 99.3% of them have no idea of their potential in this area.

Exactly!!! My Auburn buddy is one of these guys who has great sovial skills and can build relationships with anyone. He's in chemical sales and does VERY well. I can't imagine what an attractive woman with his product expertise could do. The sky is the limit for an attractive woman who has the product knowledge he does. The ceiling is unlimited for them if they go into that field although it seems like all the really attractive women with sales talent go into either pharmaceutical or real estate sales.

I always hear that LSU has the #1 Landscape Architecture program in the country.
I'm in the Coastal Environmental Science program at LSU, and I'd say for estuary research and marine biogeochemical research it is towards the top. It helps having the Mississippi Delta in your back yard.
Probably second only to Florida in the SEC. They have by far the top overall oceanography department in the SEC, mainly due to their marine biology program.

I honestly don't know. We're pretty good at everything but nothing really stands out in particular other than education.

Connections mostly.
Vandy's Medical Program is mind-blowing.
But, Emory, Duke and The University of Virginia could blow you guys out of the water as far as providing an "upper-level" undergraduate degree.
Vandy is all about financial status.
But, even a small school like Emory is way better in this regard, in my opinion.

it's funny I know a couple people who did Auburn undergrad Bama Law and a couple others that did Bama undergrad Auburn Pharmacy
btw I should have totally tried to be a pharmacist - money money money
That's bc there are a limited number of professional programs in the state. As far as I know Samford and AU are the only accredited PharmD schools in the state.

Bama's MIS program (under Culverhouse) is ranked Top 10 nationally, and is either 1st or 2nd among public institutions. Other business degrees (especially accounting) are also very well regarded. The law school is in the top 25 among public schools (top 40 altogether?). PR degree is supposedly one of the better ones to be had in the country, but I'm not too familiar.
The engineering department has made tremendous strides in the past decade, too.
My alma mater is best known for producing Carolinian teachers and wooks, though.

Besides Landscape Architecture, Nursing and Coastal Environmental Science, LSU also has excellent programs in Veterinary Medicine, Petroleum Engineering, Marine Biology, Internal Auditing, Geophysics, Entrepreneurship, Hurricane Meteorogical Engineering, Music & Dramatic Arts, Mass Communications (LSU Press is internationally well regarded),
Design and Law.
The huge new downtown LSU Medical Center NOLA campus, Pennington Biomedical Research Center in BR and the Cox Academic Center For Student Athletes are all world-renowned and add to LSU's Carnegie Institute's Highest Research Ranking.
LSU has also produced more generals and officers in all U.S. conflicts than any university besides the service academies and A&M.
Also, many top oil company CEOs and executives are Tiger alumni.

I was wearing my A&M hat while walking near the United States Patent and Trademark office. Everybody knew about A&M.
A&M first and foremost is a "Leadership Laboratory". It at one time had produced more General Officers than all the Service Academies combined.
I believe it produces more CEOs than any other public University. Fortune just did an article last year on how Aggies dominate Fortune 100 companies. It says the current CEOs of Cigna, Phillips 66, and Humana are Aggies.
I know an Aggie used to run Saudi Aramco and Honeywell. I believe there is a very public battle over the ownership of Louisiana professional sports (Saints and Pelicans) with Rita Benson LeBlanc.

Auburn:
1. Engineering (Auronautical, Civil, Wireless, Software, and Mechanical are difficult to make it through to say the least...must have the ability to pass Calculus I, II, and III).
2. Pharmacy (We just had a bomb threat from from someone in Mississippi that got rejected into our program. They closed the building and put policeman at the entrances until we could figure things out)...It turned out to just be a threat, but seriously, Why???
3. Veterinary Medicine (we take animals of all sorts...most notably two zebras from Zoo Atlanta. We also place more Vet students at the Georgia Aquarium than any other school in the South East.
Slightly disagree. My list would be:
1. Architecture
2. Veterinary Medicine
3. Engineering
Auburn has a good pharm school. It puts out lots of pharmacists. But "known for"? Nah.

I think it's actually top 25 overall fwiw. I guess it's really good.
ETA: looked it up. Bama law is ranked 22 overall in the US. It's second in the SEC only to Vandy. Better than UGA which I would have thought was second.
