Since its inception in 1898, OU has recorded 86 winning seasons, made 38 trips to the NCAA Tournament, appeared in 10 College World Series and captured two national championships.

Southern California with 21 appearances but none since 2001. They have 12 CWS titles. But have only made the NCAA tournament 5 times since 2000. The last in 2015.

That program taking a nose dive intrigues me.

The signing bonuses finally caught up with the prestige of playing with elite talent/winning titles under Coach Dedeaux.

Wait... that can't be right. I was assured that Texas' season was over and that they shouldn't even bother playing games 2 and 3 after Friday

Outside a mini-run from 95-2001, USC baseball hasn't been relevant since the 70s. 9 of their 12 titles came from 1961-1978 with them winning 5 straight from 1970-1974. They just don't invest in the sport at all, and they really haven't done much since Stanford came on the scene in California in the 80s. But honestly, ever since the SEC really got going, California has not been nearly the college baseball mecca it once was. Fullerton, Pepperdine, Southern Cal, Long Beach St, etc used to be fixtures in the college baseball world. Stanford has just recently gotten back in the mix after over a decade of not getting to Omaha.

Overall success is more than the rest. But lately, they haven't been producing like the rest of the bluebloods (like Kansas, Duke, UNC in basketball)

Sure, they have dripped off bigtime in the last 20 years, but USC is still the best baseball program of all time. Titles mean a lot more than anything else. Texas is 2nd no matter what LSU fans will argue since titles are tied but Texas blows away LSU in everything else.

UCLA is still the beat basketball program of all time no matter what Kentucky fans say.

Once Augie proved that you could recruit solid high school players from California that were deemed not-quite-good-enough for USC and UCLA in the 70s, all of the other smaller california schools (LBSU, Stanford, Pepperdine, etc.) started to outwork them and put more emphasis on baseball. USC unfortunately got stagnant, and as a result has had quite a depressing history since 2000 (at least in comparison to what they used to be).

Rod Dedeaux was their Wooden.

Amazing. Would have thought more than 6 titles in 38 trips.

So by your logic a team that appears less and wins at a higher rate is better?

We LSU fans expect to go to Omaha every single year and some expect natty 1/4 years. Delusional with today’s parity but when I think about USCw fans - what are they thinking when Coastal Carolina, East Carolina and Dallas Baptist are better programs these days? Gotta figure all the coaching and players are at Stanford and Oregon State now…

LSU winning the same amount of titles with less than half of the amount of CWS appearances trumps this, as remarkable as it is.

They’ve got an admirable CWS pedigree.
I’ll lift my glass to it.

Guess who is tied for second in NCCA history with Texas with 6 National Championship, although 7th in CWS appearances with 18………

Your own LSU fighting tigers

Until the gut wrenching loss to a better Florida team in 3 games LSU was 6-0 in title games, including one against Stanford with a game winning walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th down one run with a full count to a pinch hitter who had hit hit 2 homers his whole career. The shot heard around the world, there is a 30 for 30 on it.

So we aren't pissed off like so many think we didn’t get to CWS this year, we knew our team didn’t have what it takes to win it all. it wasn’t our year. Our goal is not to get to the CWS, it is to win the CWS, and we are as good at that as any team in history.

Texas was my preseason pick, but who the hell knows, Ole Miss is white hot rn, Arkansas is playing great, Auburns offense is on fire, ND team is almost all senior grad students and they damn near beat Mississippi State in Starkville last year, the Aggies are playing great, Oklahoma looks good. I will just say this one if teams that wins it’s first game will win it all, that’s almost always true, that’s the key
