SCOOP: The @NCAA Baseball Rules Committee has approved the @SEC's proposal to use experimental ABS (Automated Ball-Strike) Challenges in the upcoming conference tournament, I'm told. Coaches will have (3) specific ABS challenges per game in Hoover.

I'm good with it. SEC officials suck.

What happens when both coaches use all 3 in the first inning (and are successful on all)? Should be keep until you get them wrong. Because with SEC umps you could successfully challenge 3+ pitches every inning easily

this won't mean anything if they have to go to Birmingham for clarity

If you have a pitcher struggling but failed to get relievers warming up in pen - or have them warming up but need a few more minutes - you could waste a challenge to get more warm up time for reliever.

Just let the system call balls and strikes and let the ump do plays at the plate. MLB should stop embarrassing their umps by having them call balls and strikes.

I wish I was joking when I say that there are times that you can use all 3 on one batter.

You clearly have no idea how this works, huh?

Love to see it. Wonder what the average distance off the zone is going to be for the tournament. Given some of the bullshite I’ve seen over the years, I’d set the low end at 3 inches…

The “A” in ABS stands for “automatic.” The “review” takes about 5 seconds from announcement for the result of the challenge to be visually displayed. It’s pretty damn efficient.

Ok makes sense. I assumed they go to a monitor that has ABS loaded to confirm.

So who tells them the ABS and how is it relayed?

It's really not rocket science. This should take less than 10 seconds.

excellent, I'm sick of seeing Texas get the short end of the stick from the umpires

Technology is marching right on along.

Recently a friend was telling me about the possibility of microchips in the field, and in the football for exact spotting and ball location.

It's going to become very obvious very quickly why these umps are in the college game and not MLB. The way they adjust their strike zones and squeeze pitchers in the late innings of college games is almost criminal.

If you win the challenge, the team retains the challenge. So essentially you get three times to be wrong, not three challenges total.

The Braves unsuccessfully burned both of their challenges last night in the 1st inning. TYFYS Sean Murphy.
