I gained a lot of respect for Sumlin before he ever coached a game when he shot down a question about being a black coach and said he never wanted to talk about that because it didnt matter. He got criticized by the BCA for that.
I think I may have worded what I said above incorrectly. The point was that the BCA needs race to be factor otherwise the organization is redundant. It perpetuates racism.
And here is an example of how the BCA appears to want race to be a bigger factor than accomplishment.
KDS is a badass.

It's the same reason why guys like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. are always spouting off about racism. Without it, they lose the public limelight.
The greatest irony of all is the organizations and individuals trying to provide minorities with equality require bias and racism to exist.

Again for me this has NOTHING to do with Sumlin, he is a heck of a coach, it has nothing to do with the grade the BCA gave the aggies, again i think just because someone doesn't answer a call shouldn't relegate them to be given an f. my point is to answer the question why is the BCA in existence, its only there to bring out the hiring practices. no where in their mandate does it says you should hire this coach over that coach, it only point out the descrepancies when it comes to hiring black coaches.
it doesn't REQUIRE you to hire black coaches, it does ask the question as to why are no black coaches recycled on the same frequency as the white coaches. i think sumlin, franklin, and strong are great coaches for what they are working with. in my opinion franklin at vandy would rate higher because of his circumstances and he has VANDY recruiting at a high standard. Top 25 standard for sure.

People always bitch about there not being enough black coaches and the ones who are coaching not getting enough chances, and it's simply a flawed argument.
Look, it's pretty simple. Most football coaches played football at least through college. Until the early 1970s, almost every football program not at traditionally black schools was majority white and EVERY NFL team was predominantly white. Black players didnt make up over 50% of NFL players until 1984. Many major college programs, especially those in Big 10 and the NE schools, were majority white until well into the late-80s.
The point of this is that there is simply a much, much, much smaller pool of potential black coaches to choose from. There's a reason black coaches become more and more common, and it's because there are more and more qualified black former players.

Let's look at that question, shall we?
Of the black head coaches fired over the last 5 years, who would you rehire?
For me, the only one I could definitively say "YES" to would be Turner Gill. I think it takes a lot more than 2 years to turn around the mess than Mark Mangino left, and now no coach worth a damn will coach there.

ok give those same black coaches the resources you give the kiffins of the world and let's see how they respond. hell kiffin took a preseason number one ranked team and look where they are at. Turner Gill couldn't do no worse than what kiffin did this year for sure.

Spoken like someone who never saw Kansas play when he was there.

You realize that "the Kiffins of the world" are exceptions, right? I don't know of many coaches, white, black, whatever, that have had the opportunities Kiffin has had.
But that comes back to the original point - Racists will see it as a racial issue. Racists will point to "the Kiffins of the world" and say "white dude has it, why don't I have it"? In reality that logic is inherently flawed because the premise is flawed.

Again, so what is your excuse for kiffin then roger? i did see what gill had to work with. i put it this way hell james franklin would have coached usc better than what kiffin did this year. hell he did a better job at vandy than kiffin did at usc. so roger you saying that kiffin would have done better at kansas?

Tyrone Willingham had four times as many losses at NOTRE DAME in years 2 and 3 (12) as he did in year 1.
He then won a grand total of 11 games at Washington in four years, including an 0-12 finish. The quarterback for that team his final season...Jake Locker

Is the BCA still even necessary?
