Three college football programs, including Notre Dame, are now on probation for recruiting violations in connection with former Seattle area prospect Sav’ell Smalls, according to ESPN.

The NCAA announced the penalties Thursday. The Fighting Irish played in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, losing to Alabama in the national semifinal.

The Seattle Kennedy Catholic standout eventually signed with Washington. Texas A&M and Florida were the other two schools penalized, per ESPN, with those penalties and findings being previously announced.

Why would you vacate wins for for a player that never played on your team?

Notre Dame on probation right after Freeman goes there is still funny to me. LSU gets the last laugh.

Notre Dame lost no scholarships and is eligible for everything moving forward. They had to pay a $5,000 fine, though!

I think Freeman is gonna be ok

Aren’t they banned from bowl games (including playoffs) if eligible?

Maybe Notre Dame self reported and answered the NCAA inquiries in a timely manner.

It's almost like it was the high school coach's plan...

All the trolling aside, this was actually a really interesting case. It's about a star LBer in Washington. His high school coach wanted him to stay in Washington and laid a trap to lure the other schools the kid was considering into illegal contact. Minor, but illegal. Those schools happened to be UF, ND, and A&M. Those programs had to stop recruiting him. Kid went to Washington. It was all pretty shitty of the coach, really.

This is why the punishment was very small.

There’s an inordinate amount of Mizzou posters with extremely fringe political views. Not sure why or anything just an observation I always found interesting
