I always get on Texas A&M but I think Elko is a good coach that just made some lazy hires on both sides of the football. If you have money the way the Aggies do, I would hire the top coordinators that would work well with Elko. We saw Brian Kelly do a lazy hire with Joe Sloan when he could have went and got a top offensive coordinator. If the season plays out like the last few weeks vs the top SEC teams and has something similar next year, they will fire him. He has to make better hires in the off season.

Unsure. His stubborn refusal to bench Reed is puzzling. He’s become incredibly defensive as things go South. It is like he cannot admit he made mistakes.
Playing the backup QB’s might provide a spark. It might not. Arkansas is a good game to test this - Reed has the yips something awful.

Many Gamecocks feel the same way about Beamer/Sellers(QB). Both Reed and Sellers have regressed and both coaches are “all in” on them. Your observation about figuring out a way to scheme around their shortcomings is spot on.

I remembered Reed being the QB that had to play in the 2023 bowl game under the Interim head coach after another back up got hurt and checked to confirm. His first season was 2023, so he was a Jimbo recruit. Jimbo had like 3 different starters with multiple starts his last 2 years due to injuries. His offense was antiquated at that point for what schools were doing.
Jimbo ran off Hunter King who probably would have been good under A&M’s offense during Elko first 2 seasons. I guess Jimbo pushed Weigman as the guy for 2023 or just kept getting King killed with his play calling, but then in 2024 Elko was quick to ditch Weigman after one horrible half against LSU and never looked back (even though Reed lost 3 of the 4 regular season games after LSU). They called a different game once Reed came in to add another runner that LSU had to account for which eventually allowed for Reed to hit some passes over the top, but Weigman seems to have some running ability. If they had called the same offense to force defenses to focus on the running game first he might still be there.

Texas game is rivalry week, Texas is the better team this year, but wierd things happen in rivalry week. That would make 8.

Not sure about firing him but he sure didn’t do himself any favors following the loss to Miami. Tons of self inflicted pain from OC and DC promotions without performing a national search. OL and DL portal classes were huge failures. Worst part is that he sounds completely lost in his last two post game pressers.
