written by Haley Venglar of Texas A&M University. This is taken from The Odyssey website. Who can argue with reason #11!!??

Texas A&M is one of the most tradition-laden schools in the nation. I like it!

"11 Reasons Why Texas A&M is a Cult"

"From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. And from the inside looking out, you can't explain it."

If you're an Aggie, you've definitely caught flack from your non-Aggie friends in some way, shape or form about being a member of "the A&M cult" (I like to call it the Aggie Family, but to each their own). With all of the Kool-Aid jokes aside, I really can see how we get this reputation.

1. We gather every Friday night in the Fall at a designated location and let men dressed in overalls lead us in the traditional yells of our cult.

2. We place offerings at the feet of a sacred statue in the hopes and belief that it will bring us good luck in our endeavors.

3. We believe in the power of a sacred tree and how it can alter our future love lives.

4. We take the loss of fellow members very seriously and multiple ceremonies are packed with Aggies from all reaches of life to show respect.

5. We will tackle you if you step on the grass of our Memorial Student Center, because it is a memorial and it's not "stupid." You should read the signs.

6. The 12th Man, no explanation needed.

7. The strength of the cult is so strong that our symbol is known to spark conversation all over the world and bring members of all ages together.

8. When we face other schools, we show support in one of the only ways we know how: by yelling at them and waving towels in the air as directed by men dressed in all white.

9. Upon hearing the number corresponding to the year that our academic service to the cult is complete, we can be heard spouting off noises such as: AAAAA, A-A-A-A-A, A-A-A Whoop, and A-Whoop!

10. When we hear the war hymn of our people, we throw our arms around each other and sway, while belting it out at the top of our lungs, of course.

11. A dog is the highest ranking member of our Corps of Cadets. In fact, Reveille is so important to us that if she barks, we get out of class!

GO REVEILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A&M certainly has some unique traditions. Those of us who favor other SEC schools can usually just ignore it tolerate them.

I don’t know why I came to this site now; it’s always a place of hate.

I lost my best friend this week to a self-inflicted, mortal injury.
I dropped in to talk sport and get my mind off of the pain.
Huge mistake.

We’re (Texas A&M University) a cult.
I’m ok with that.
But we hugely respect and honor those who attend(ed) university elsewhere.

Some of y’all oughta kick back and reflect upon what it means to hate those who made decisions different to yours.
It’s so odd.

Be blessed.

In my opinion, our best tradition is the one we should never wish to celebrate - Silver Taps. It’s a ceremony that occurs after any current students pass away. Pretty powerful stuff to witness.

EKG.....I'm terribly sorry about the loss of your friend. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

I like A&M and love their traditions. I don't call it a cult; just a tradition-laden school that has much to be proud of and others just are either jealous or intimidated by A&M's stature in comparison to their own program. Don't take it personal.

Again, very sorry for what you're going through and especially for the family of the one who has passed away. You be blessed as well, friend.

That is awesome...and very humbling to know.

I like A&M and I believe your traditions are impressive.

Criticism and jokes re: A&M are baseless and full of insecurity from those that direct them to A&M. They make folks like myself want to get behind and support you, which I do -- except when you play UGA & USC, of course! :)

Aggies can take their jizz jar and go home as far as I’m concerned.

Then why did you make the original post if not for derision and ridicule? Disingenuous at best.
EKG rightly called you out and you crawfished.
Be better OP.

Reminds me of Aggypedia.

Someone spent a considerable amount of time on this.

You didn't go to the school so why would you care about their traditions?

From what you posted, their traditions are a lot more respectable than barking at people anyway.
