I think this guy pretty much nails it with Coach O:
Long but detailed explanation, plus some shots at Harbaugh

The TL;DWatch

- Coach O plays up to the persona that people think he's dumb when he's in fact not, but people constantly underestimate him

- Coach O took a step back and changed in a major way (offense) a lot of coaches refuse to do, like Harbaugh, because they're full of themselves and O knows there's people with other/better ideas

And, as linked earlier, I always wanted him.

I saw this happening.

Since bama is allowed to retroclaim national titles via the football thesaurus, why are you upset that we are claiming 7 top ten games?

You’ll have to allow it.

Won’t it be glorious if such an emotional guy topples the midget sociopath? That would be a win for all of us, for humanity.

I always thought O got a bad rap for the Ole Miss situation. They were bad and he didn't do a good job, but he learned from his mistakes. The fact that he got USC to a bowl after they dumped Kiffin was a good sign.
After the USC stint, I said on this site that LSU ought to at least look at him the next time a coaching search happened.
He reminds me a lot of Dabo - strong recruiter, good at keeping the team motivated and on track, excellent at finding high quality assistants and letting them do their thing. And like Dabo, I think he plays up his goofiness for the national media. He's not above talking to some ESPN type about seafood gumbo if it gets LSU more attention.

I love Coach O. I liked the hire from the beginning. Wasn't a fan of the Canada hire, but he fixed that

I wasn’t super exited about the hire, but not because of O. I wanted Herman after watching what he did at Houston. One thing about O that I think is a huge plus is that no matter how successful he is at LSU, no one can hire him away. He will ride this horse until someone shoots it out from under him

As a former college starter (many years ago, but I did get a National Championship ring in my playing days...subtle brag here...lol), I love Coach O. He represents everything that is right about college football, which sadly seems to be going the other way a bit recently. LSU, you got yourselves a good 'un.

I grew up in and around Tuscaloosa, so I am still an Alabama fan, as well as a Ga Tech fan, where I played. If Alabama doesn't win it all this year, hope the Bayou Bengals do.

We like our current athletic director even better. Sorry you couldn't hold on to him.

P.S. We may score 72 on you in regulation this year.

Your defense is bad enough we might do the same. I cannot see you stopping anyone with that terrible defense of yours. It says a LOT when OU seems to have a better defense

I said it was genius since day number 1 when he rallied y’all in the wake of Les to murder a bad Mizzou team. We were bad but regardless the players played their most disciplined game of your season.

It’s not about is someone a great coach it’s are they a great coach for your program. He may not work anywhere else but he is perfect for LSU. Odom is the same way for Mizzou. He is a tough SOB that matches the show me mindset of the state.

Some coaches are just great fits at certain places. Coach O's accent, high energy & toughness is LSU football.
