He don’t have to stop. The stop signs are for the dumb asses entering the main road. He has the right away. Traffics coming from both sides of the road are the ones that must stop.
You ran out in front of him is what really happened.
Maybe you should stop driving. Because no where I have ever seen a courtesy stop even mentioned. My 16 year old son just took his driver test over the summer and it doesn’t mention anything about a courtesy stop.
I can tell you that Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee or Kentucky doesn’t recognize “courtesy stops”.

“Courtesy Stops” are not a thing. No such thing in the LAW of roads. What if he stops in the middle of the road and he gets rear ended by the car behind him? Then it’s his fault for giving you a courtesy stop, and stopping in the middle of the road that don’t have a stop sign. You need to put the keys up and stop driving asap.
