East, TN, Knoxville, and the smaller cities nearby in KY and VA deserve the credit NOT Nashville. Bluegrass and country were born in East, TN with credit being due to our kin in SW Virginia and Eastern, Kentucky.
I have to admit, when I think of Deliverance, I think of Tennessee

Great synopsis. I concur that East Tennessee and Southern Appalachia deserve the credit. That was authentic country music before it turned into modern Nash Trash.

Whoever wrote this is as dumb as the people who decided to put the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland. Cleveland should not be on this or any other list, but the writer is a kiss arse.
Detroit? Motown left Detroit eons ago and moved to Pasadena
Atlanta with only the mention of hip hop and R&B?
Some of the greatest alternative rock came out of greater Atlanta
Writer wrote about NYC without mentioning folk music there. Greenwich Village.
who wrote this shite? what an amateur

Being in Louisville - Nashville used to be the go-to spot for the wife and I before kids. Big, big fan.

yep
and I agree with Prof's Knoxville comments, excellent stuff coming out of AM radio there. I like to think Mountain View, Arkansas is a little brother to east Tenn and eastern Kentucky, pulling that art westward
whoever wrote the OP text is a corporatist kiss arse - I grew up loving R&B, and it's a slap in the face to R&B to be linked with that hiphop rap shite

Mississippi is known as the birthplace of America’s music. Obviously we have no large city but per capita, there has probably been more musical star power from Mississippi than any other place in the 50 states.
Music scene is underrated as well but there are great local/regional bands/artists scattered around the state on the coast, Meridian, the Delta, the University towns, Tupelo, Jackson area etc.

Oh for sure. It's like East, Tennessee stops somewhere in Middle, TN (Middle, TN still has a lot in common with us) and then picks right back up again in Arkansas which has produced a ton of talented musicians.
It's weird that the culture stops and starts again but I think that's why I've always had such great fan experiences with Ark peeps. Somewhere out there is a photo of me wearing a goofy arse hog hat that visiting Arky fans talked me into one game day. Alcohol might've been involved but they taught me how to call the hogs. I miss that cross-div - it was fun and never got mean the way some do.

THE ONLY REASON ATLANTA WOULD EVER BE CONSIDERED A TOP 10 MUSIC CITY.
You’re right it’s not like Atlanta is a staple for an entire genre of music

St. Louis: Home of Chuck Berry, Scott Joplin (father of Ragtime), childhood home of Tina Turner, Josephine Baker, Grace Bumbry, Miles Davis, Nelly and the greatest blues song ever by WC Handy: The St. Louis Blues.

Atlanta and New Orleans have trash music….the jazz days are long gone for Nola

Only one from the list worth living in. Had no idea (besides the Blues) that such terrible cities could produce such outstanding music history.

While I agree that East Tennessee has a rich musical heritage, we should probably look at the musicians that have called Nashville home. The list of songs written in Nashville and most definitely the unbelievable catalog of legendary albums recorded in Nashville. Nashville’s place in the history of American music is above question.
Not to mention the numerous famous music venues
The list is a joke and reads like it was written by someone in high school with little knowledge of music or music history.
