Dude hasn’t even coached a game. You have no clue if it’s a better hire.

With a look at his background he’s an upgrade. And one with solid connections to Schlarman which is important for the continuity on the line.

Yes, he’s a better hire.

Important to note, Bert hired the assistant Oline coach from the Bills and it was pretty bad. Not saying this will be the case here but its the assistant and not the head coach of the Oline.

He's a Kentucky guy...and has a good looking resume. He didn't have a great track record as a recruiter...but recruiting to Kansas, who would?

Hopefully, he will have better luck at UK than he had at KU. That 2017 team was pretty horrid on the OL.

Yea I mean the hire sounds fine or whatever but the idea that the 49ers OL Coach was like "Yea, you know, I think I'd rather go coach at Kentucky" is

His only actually head OL coach jobs were:

- Kansas (2015-2017)

- Cal (2013-2014)

Love it, welcome back to Kentucky!

So was Wolford recruiting the guy to Bama while we thought he was out recruiting for us? I’m seeing it all over the place but don’t think we’ll ever know

Looking at how those teams did with him as their OL coach:

2013 Cal - 1-11
2014 Cal - 5-7
2015 KU - 0-12
2016 KU - 2-10
2017 KU - 1-11

Here is how these teams ranked in rushing.

2013 Cal - 42nd
2014 Cal - 107th
2015 KU - 109th
2016 - KU - 120th
2017 - KU - 116th

Now I can see why Kentucky fans on here are so excited. As a college position coach he was part of 9 wins over 5 seasons, and his teams were pretty consistent in being among the worst rushing teams in FBS.

Do you actually know his background as an OL coach in college? It’s not great. Plus he was the assistant OL coach in the NFL.

Maybe he turns out great but it’s probably more reasonable to wait and see if he’s actually good

Why would he take a step down? And before you get your panties twisted, I’d have said that about any NFL OL coach taking a college OL coach job.

Mainly because he's an assistant OL coach and not the OL coach

He’s an assistant OL coach. Not the OL.

He’s also from Kentucky and has some ties to the program, particularly through former OL Schlarman.

Assistant OL coach. Amounts to a grad assistant.

Guy was dynamite at Kansas.

Nope. But Wolford inherited Schlarman’s line, maintained but didn’t improve the situation, and the left in the shadiest way possible. Good luck with that.

Knowing guys that have coached with Yenser and think it’s a quality hire. Particularly when it comes to scheme (Coen thinks very highly of him) and his ties to Schlarman.
