For fans who followed the game before the portal, this is a sad thing. But as time passes and more fans become fans under the current landscape, it will be their normal and see nothing wrong with it. The rest of us will be just the old guys standing in our lawn screaming at the clouds.

When I was a teenager I remember my uncle would constantly complain about TV times. He was in the boomer generation and went to UGA in the mid 60s. He would always say that college football was meant to be played at 1pm on Saturday like everyone always used to. As a teenager that made zero sense to me since now games were on TV and everyone could watch, plus games at night (or even 3:30) were just as neat as 1pm.

Often times nowadays I catch myself wondering if my children will one day look at my tales from the old days in teh same way. At present I don't think it's apples to apples though. Whether you play at 1pm in front of only the stands or at 3:30 in front of millions on TV, the actual game itself is still the same. The game time is just superfluous details. All the shite going on now is fundamentally changing the actual game itself which sucks.

I'm not so sure about that. If you have a chance, watch some games in the 70's, 80's and up to the mid 90's, then fast forward to around 2010 and forward and let me know what you notice. There should be a noticeable difference in how the game is played and that is due to rule changes. They have subtly and not so subtly changed the rules as it pertains to offense and defense, that how the game is played has definitely changed.

um, yes...but that has nothing to do with what I was talking about. The style of play and how the game looks on the field in 1970 compared to 2010 has less than nothing to do with the game being played at 1pm or 3:30.

I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying though the times of the games have changed, the game itself has not changed. Which I disagreed with. If you didn't mean that, my apologies.I guess I'm not following what you're saying.

Need to ban the portal and limit NIL or do away entirely with both is the best option.

Yet another stat on why I no longer pay attention to HS recruiting. Roster building has overtaken player development.

curious how this number compares with 5 years ago, or 10.

I’m shocked SEC fans don’t like this era. Shocked. It was a much better system when your schools could pay a player under the nose of the NCAA and then hold them hostage for 4 years.

And yes, fans and kids of the future will laugh at everything pre-2025 when a real playoff started. It’s like us laughing at a year in the 1920’s that have 4 national titles being claimed. The fans of the future will mock the media picking era, BCS, and hand picked 4 team era. I imagine schools will be shamed into taking down banners at some point.

Young people today are also a lot more accustomed to seeing other young people make big money in general. 25 years ago, a woman like Livvy Dunne would be an unknown trophy wife instead of a social media millionaire. There’s also a lot more mobility in the workforce. Fewer young people will end up spending 10, 20, 30+ years somewhere. Moving around to get your bag is what young people are used to seeing in everyday life, not just sports.

That’s actually one reason why I’m for the players. A lot of people their age are making bank doing things that require a hell of a lot less talent and work than playing major college football at a high level.

I’m actually surprised it’s not higher than 48%….I expect that number to climb every year for awhile.

I'm "for the players" as well, just not at the expense of potentially ruining the game, or should I say ruining the game for me.
