That’s a good point, for the reasons you laid out.

I think at some point conferences will basically coalesce into 4 or 5 conferences, with the rest forming (for lack of a better example) a minor league with 2-4 conferences

I would hate an alignment that didn't have LSU & Florida playing every year. We really hate them.

Maintaining rivals is very important with a 6-3 schedule.

But we must have balance.

Alabama - Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee.
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State.
Arkansas - Texas, A&M, Missouri.
Florida - LSU, Georgia, SCarolina.
Georgia - Auburn, Florida, SCarolina.
Kentucky - Tennesse, Vandy, ?
LSU - Florida, Ole Miss, Texas A&M.
Oklahoma - Texas, Missouri, ?
Ole Miss - LSU, Mississippi State, Vandy.
Mississippi State - Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss.
Missouri - Arkansas, Oklahoma, SCarolina.
South Carolina - Florida, Georgia, Missouri.
Tennessee - Alabama, Kentucky, Vandy.
Texas - Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M.
Texas A&M - Arkansas, LSU, Texas.
Vandy - Tennesse, Kentucky, Ole Miss.

Can you help fill in the blanks?

I feel confident that Kentucky would block the Oklahoma alignment.

Who gets Oklahoma as their 3rd permanent opponent?

Also, who would ESPN like to pair with Oklahoma for a national telecast?

Indeed.

Let’s just call it like it is. There’s teams that are traditional powers, and some that are good teams, but not great.

Getting schedules that don’t give teams 3 traditional powers is tougher than it looks unless you just ignore distance which I’m not a fan of.

But it’s a nice way to pass a day before we get back down to business on Saturday.

Doesn't just throw all the ex-SWC/Big8/Big12 schools together. Only weird matchup is Oklahoma vs. Ole Miss. But tough not to have at least one that doesn't feel forced.

LSU is going to play Bama, Florida and Ole Miss every year.

Tennessee has to play Bama and
Florida

Therefore Bama has to play Auburn, Tennessee and LSU

As result Florida has to play UGA, LSU, Tennessee

This is the way!

Odds are extremely good I’ve been one longer than you.

I don’t see a way to keep both LSU and the stinking Vols as permanent rivals in a 3+6 format.

Of the two I’ll take LSU 10/10. Would give us 2 rivals we don’t like but respect. Not to mention the LSU games have been some of the best games any of us have seen.

The stinking Vols are worthy of nothing but contempt.

Only the Bama game is true.
The Florida game is not, I can guarantee you it won’t be a permanent.

UK- 128
Vandy- 116
Bama- 102

UF- 52
UGA- 52

UT-UF was a rivalry created by expansion into divisions, as meaningful as I was in the 1990’s, it’s not a traditional must have game.

Bama- Auburn, LSU, Tennessee
Auburn- Bama, UGA, LSU
Arkansas- State, Texas, USC
Florida- LSU, UGA, Tennessee
UGA- Auburn, Florida, USC
Kentucky- OM, State, Vandy
LSU- Bama, Auburn, Florida
Oklahoma- Mizzou, Texas, A&M
OM- Kentucky, State, Vandy
State- Arkansas, Kentucky, OM
Mizzou- Oklahoma, USC, A&M
USC- Arkansas, UGA, Mizzou
Tennessee- Bama, Florida, Vandy
Texas- Arkansas, Oklahoma, A&M
A&M- Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas
Vandy- Tennesse, Kentucky, OM

They will match them up like they did in 92. True Rivals then money. They will have the games with most closely matched programs on as permanent rivals for closer games.

If we can only pick three, I think Bama/Florida/one of either OM or 3&7

LSU is not a rival. Tenner has been our biggest rival for a long time.

It should be UTk, Auburn, and Miss St.

Lifshoals you are correct LSU/Bama is one of the most anticipated games every season, and more often than not it doesn’t disappoint. That being said, I too am an Old guy. Ole Miss is our traditional rival. Don’t forget that Auburn and LSU have had some epic games too. For some reason, you all want to have LSU play A&M. A&M is not our rival. We once played them at the beginning of the season for a warm up. If the determining factor is regional proximity I’d rather play Texas

I did. When you’re looking at all the teams things start shuffling. Especially once you get down to 3rd permanents. When I got to that point, looked like a pretty good pairing I thought.

I’ll admit I think the trophy for the LSU/Arkansas is one of the better ones, so I had it over Ole Miss. fully, freely admit I’m not an LSU fan and didn’t rank your rivalries as 1/2/etc. You think Ole Miss is a more important one so shuffling things a bit to make that one work is doable, probably take 8 or so games rearranging.

I think you get the why of doing this. We’re going to have to look at not only what has been important, but what we may have to be willing to change going forward.l if this is the format they go with.

I think keeping the Bama/LSU game on a yearly basis outweighs just about everything else.

It isn’t even close to that important….

It’s behind..all these..
UGA-AU: DSOR
AU-UA: IRON BOWL
UT-OU: Red River Shootout
UGA-UF: WLOCP
UTk-UA: TSIO
UT-TexAM: Lone Star Showdown
OM-MSU: EGG BOWL
OM-LSU
UTK-UK
VU-UT

Then these games would be nice to have..

LSU-UA
UF-UTk
UT-UGA
LSU-AU
LSU-UF

but they aren’t so traditional that they have to be played every year.
