I absolutely hate the 3/rotate six model. I vastly prefer two eight-team divisions, but even pods are preferable to losing so many annual rivalries.
I hate that so many years pass without players even PLAYING another team, much less get to visit their stadium.
it's EASY to protect at LEAST two rivalries, and then guarantee that you will play EVERY TEAM, HOME AND AWAY, in a 4 year period.
THAT's what should happen.

At the very worst, your oh-so-precious third and 4th rivalry will still take place on average every other year. You aint losing a rivalry, your gaining about 5 more.

3 and 6: If the SEC goes to a nine-game league scheduling format, this is the favored potential model.
I HIGHLY doubt it's favored.

Georgia - Florida (yes), Auburn (yes), South Carolina (HELL NO!!!)

WHY would you have a playoff to determine the winner...who goes into another playoff?

If they go 3/6, I doubt LSU keeps Auburn. They didn’t play annually until 1992. LSU would probably keep Ole Miss, for sure, and probably Texas A&M. Third one is up for grabs, but the reality is LSU-Auburn is essentially a 30-year-old rivalry.
I could almost see Auburn picking up Florida or Tennessee given they played them annually in the dark ages before expansion. But Auburn is almost certainly going to have Alabama and Georgia so they’d probably want a little more of a breather for the third annual game.

Absolutely brutal for these two if they went with this.

&, to repeat the obvious fault of this format:
creating tie-breakers to sort teams with no common opponents.

That’s weak. I’d like something a little better than that

Honestly, who are LSU’s rivals? Ole Miss for sure but Bama and Florida seem to be a relatively recent phenomenon.

LSU isn’t anyone’s main rival but we’re certainly in the top 3 of a lot of SEC teams

USC doesn't play in the SEC; however, South Carolina does.

UGA fans would rather have Tennessee right? I’m sure they don’t want the big 6 to all have each other as their 3 permanents but honestly it’s what they should do. Too many good yearly rivalries to split them all up.

It doesn't matter as they'd be playing them anyway. You're not escaping good teams in a 3 and 6

That's terrible for the conference when you are trying to place two or more teams in the playoffs. You have 16 teams and force three of the top four to end the season with a loss.
It would be a quality loss, as they will all be at least top 15 teams, if not top 10. Maybe it keeps a team out, but it'll bring in crazy revenue, and you can finally rotate Nashville and DFW like people have been wanting for the SECCG

Alabama for South Carolina?

Texas A&M would be
Texas, LSU, then Arkansas. Oklahoma could replace Arkansas or LSU as required.

Hopefully for the Other 6 they do Home and Away in consecutive years instead of a completely new 6 each year

The nationally relevant games over the last 22 years were first Auburn and Florida and then Alabama. The Auburn rivalry took off in the 90s with the 12 team SEC. The Florida and Alabama games go back decades earlier (first Florida game in the 30s, first Alabama game in 1895).
Ole Miss was a big deal in the 50s and 60s that the older fans still value. Mississippi State goes back to 1896 (115 games) but has been pretty lopsided.
Arkansas was introduced when they joined the SEC in 92 and is a pseudo rivalry but we hate Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and probably Ole Miss more. Arkansas hates Texas and Hygiene more.
I would much rather have the pods solution to keep Ole Miss, Florida, Alabama, MSU, Arkansas, and A&M. But if you only get three choices I want three of the top four from the Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss list. Those are the teams I care about playing more.
