DB Portion of the series "LSU is LBU"
247 : DBU
1. Ohio State (61 pts, 10 draft picks)
2. FLORIDA
Points: 51
Draft picks: 9
We gave a lot of credit to a Will Muschamp staff at Florida for its work at linebacker with assistants like Dan Quinn and D.J. Durkin leading some quality evaluations. That same staff was behind some of Florida’s big hits at defensive back too, led by Travaris Robinson. Under Muschamp, Florida recruited and started the development of Keanu Neal, Vernon Hargreaves, Teez Tabor, Quincy Wilson, Marcus Maye, Duke Dawson and Marcell Harris. All but Harris were drafted inside the first two rounds. More recently, Florida has produced 2020 first-round pick CJ Henderson and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, a fourth-rounder in 2019.
3. ALABAMA
Points: 48
Draft picks: 9
Nick Saban has long been known as a defensive back guru so Alabama’s presence high among the defensive back rankings is no surprise. While the assistant coaches in Tuscaloosa turn over regularly, Saban’s hands-on approach from an evaluation and development standpoint have kept the Tide consistent in the secondary. Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick are the first-rounders within the last five years. But there have also been three second-rounders in Xavier McKinney, Trevon Diggs and Cyrus Jones and a third rounder in Ronnie Harrison, a high school quarterback.
4. LSU
Points: 43
Draft picks: 8
Of the eight LSU defensive backs taken in the last five NFL Drafts, six of them have landed inside the first two rounds. Corey Raymond has been a mainstay as an evaluator and developer within that LSU secondary since 2012 and he’s had a hand in the development of first-rounders Tre’Davious White and Jamal Adams as well as second-rounders Greedy Williams, Donte Jackson, Grant Delpit and Kristian Fulton. Among the eight picks, four were Louisiana natives, three were Texans and one was from South Florida. Derek Stingley is next in line here.
5. Clemson (40 pts, 8 draft picks)
6. Washington (33 pts, 6 draft picks)
7. Utah (31 pts, 6 draft picks)
8. Miami (28 pts, 8 draft picks)
9. West Virginia (27 pts, 6 draft picks)
T10. AUBURN
Points: 26
Draft picks: 7
Kevin Steele’s Auburn defenses have benefited from a strong mix of defensive line play and secondary work. The defensive back production seems to be gaining steam. Sixth- and seventh-round picks of Blake Countess, Joshua Holsey and Rudy Ford back in 2016 and 2017 are giving way to second- (Carlton Davis), third- (Jamel Dean) and first-round (Noah Igbinoghene) picks, respectively, in the last three drafts.
T10. Michigan (26 pts, 6 draft picks)
247 : DBU
1. Ohio State (61 pts, 10 draft picks)
2. FLORIDA
Points: 51
Draft picks: 9

Have to admit, I thought Kevin Steele was washed up years ago. He's proven me wrong.

Interested to see LSU fan spin this after they used the same formula yesterday to claim LBU.

this is completely retarded. producing the most or highest draft picks does not equal producing the best defensive backs.

It kind of does, though.

Out of curiosity, what would you consider a better metric?

In the next draft LSU will have at least another FOUR dbs chosen- one of whom is a generational talent. So they have quantity, but more importantly Quality. It’s a continual pipeline of super elite players like Peterson , Matthieu , White, Jackson and Adams who are among the best at their position . Guys that are a top 4/5 player on their NFL team. Not just bodies on the roster.

You could argue that 4 of the best 7 DBs listed are LSU tigers.
Nah but for sure let’s consider trevon diggs lol

Exactly we literally had 3 All Pro DB’s last year in the NFL.
I’ll take quality over quantity any day of the week!!

I find it odd that none of these arguments were made in the Linebacker thread yesterday considering it was the same system used to tabulate points and rankings.

Yes. As AHM pointed out correctly, if you're going to use one metric for LBs, the same must be used for DBs. After all, no one posts more about LSU than him. We should trust his opinion on this.

I’d have to go UF, LSU then Bama

Well, looks like we lost the DBU title. Maybe Derek Stingley Jr when he get to the NFL will help us win that Championship.

Kinda like the bama fans who will bash yesterday's formula but now embrace this one.

It would be difficult for any school to hold this title for a particular position for every specific 5 year run. It's just not really sustainable.

You should be. It's a disgrace.

Which 4 LSU dbs will he drafted next year? Depending on the season they have we could have 3 safeties go in Stevens, Harris, and Vincent. But all of our cb’s this year will be sophomores
