Saban really should have attempted the 30ish yard field goal to go up 10 with a couple of minutes left in the 4th.

I have always thought this. If he was thought Griffith had a chance at 57, didn't he have a better chance at 30?

It was the definition of a heartbreaking loss.
Saban was eager to move on from the conservative OC Nussmeier as the 2013 season ended.
He would then shock the world, going no huddle, faster pace, hiring "The Lane Train".
BAMA would go 3-0 vs AU with Lane.

That's interesting. There was a gay couple behind me at that game. 1 guy was Bama fan, other was FSU. FSU guy's parents were Auburn season ticket holders/alumni. After the play the Bama guy stormed off and his BF was yelling "Baby, come back. It's just a game".
It was rather comical.

Easily the loudest sound I've heard in my life. Between the noise and the stadium shaking, it was like a bomb went off when Davis scored. Next thing I know I see this fat girl run by me down the stairs and throw herself into the bushes, crushing them. For some reason that's my most vivid memory of it...

Dude... come on. We still talk about Van Tiffen in 1985. He didn't win the natty. You think we wouldn't talk about Langham in the 92 SECCG if we had lost to Miami? That's not even close to right. Great plays are great. It's like Jalen's run against Klimpsum, it wasn't less great because of that bullshite pick play they "scored" on with 0:01. Filthy, rotten, cheating, lying liar refs.

If Adam made that kick, BAMA 3peats and that becomes the greatest kick of all time in BAMA history.

I don't really place a lot of blame on Saban for going for the 4th and 1. Yeldon was running all over Auburn that game, and our field goal kicking was so erratic. We probably had a better chance of getting the 1 yard than making the kick. I for one expected us to convert right there. Lawson(I think?) stepped up and made a great stop at the line.

Yeldon also tried to bounce it outside instead of just staying downhill. Can't really fault him entirely for that because he was really good at doing that, but situational awareness there should have been better.

Worst part of that day was Paul Walker’s death.

RIP

Didn't realize that was the same day.

I do have a pretty vivid memory of being at a friends house in Auburn right before the 2009 Iron Bowl and everyone breaking the news of Tiger getting into a car wreck.

Another thing no one mentions is that Kenyan Drake was getting like 10 ypc before getting benched early for running his mouth. Would've been nice to have some fresh legs to spell Yeldon.

1) The entire stadium knew a dive play was coming (they were in a 10 man front)
2) The kid that tried the 57 yd field goal was fine at 30 yards. If anything, he should have kicked the 35 yarder, and Foster should have tried the 57 yarder.
3) Even with a first down, we'd have probably had to try one the next series, because Auburn's defense was packing the line of scrimmage and Saban wasn't about to put the ball in the air at that point.

We were going for over 6 yards/rush, and it was one yard. I was confident that we could get one yard, even with a stacked box.

Yet our kicking woes were plenty, and there was still a good chance that we miss a 30 yarder.

We would've been in an infinitely better position to win the game had we converted.

lol- did you really reply to yourself?

There are paintings everywhere of Prothro's catch against Southern Miss, right?
What was Bama's final record that year, chief?

Alabama blew multiple chances to salt that game away in the 4th quarter. They also tried to play conservative and kick field goals in which Foster was not going to make a field goal no matter how close the attempt was.

Wasn’t there. I went to the UGA game weeks prior. The prayer in Jordan hare. Thought I was a lucky fan to have witnessed JH’s arguably best moment. Definitely the loudest I’ve ever heard a crowd.

I was then robbed of this distinction 2 weeks later
