I do not know how you can have a 80% acceptance rate with those numbers.
Because most students with those numbers aren't striving to attend Auburn University. Lower number of overall applicants = higher percentage of acceptance in this case.

Alabama's COE isn't chopped liver.
Florida is better than both. And no SEC school really has a lot of prestige behind their grad school engineering programs (not sure about undergrad). That's why you jump ship and go to Gatech. :)

As to the acceptance rate, schools that get a ton more apps (as the "state" schools always do) are always gonna have a lower acceptance rate. They can't possibly accept anywhere near 79% because they don't have the facilities to do it.
Bingo.

I don't need to do any research to know that AU's College of Engineering is much better than UA's.
Don't take it personal. UA has schools/colleges much better than AU's as well. We both have our individual strengths. The state's Land Grant University has the much stronger engineering program. Believing differently is delusional.
Do you believe this because someone told you, or because you actually graduated/attended?

Auburn released this week that the average ACT score for incoming Freshman was 27.2 and a GPA of over 3.70.
That is pretty good.
This years freshman class at the UofA had a 26 ACT average and 3.6 GPA average. Something like 41 National Merit Scholars.

They get the National Merit Scholars because they offer the moon compared to what other schools offer. UA uses that as a marketing tool.

There was talk about AU opening a branch campus in Hunstville a few years back. I do not know what happened to those plans.
I think Huntsville would have benefitted more in the long run from this than Auburn would. If Huntsville was anything like Bham, then they'd steal your engineering program and claim you have nothing to do with it. See the University of Alabama School of Medicine now having UAB's name and logo officially plastered all over it.

From what I can tell, there are only a handful of public schools that can really call themselves "elite" regarding educational quality and opportunities (big emphasis on the latter). Those schools would be, in no particular order: Berkely, UVA, Michigan, Texas, Florida, and UCLA
Decent list, but I'd drop Florida and possibly Texas and add UNC.

Wha? The moon?
We get good students because of our business and marketing programs. We had 31 last year, so this is no something new for us. Only up 10 from a year ago.

By all means.
I just get tired of hearing how much "better" AU's COE is than Alabama's. Nevermind the structure of the engineering programs between UA, UAH, and UAB. I have a BS and MS in Civil Engineering from Alabama. I know how solid the degree is.

Don't worry. In his knee jerk haste to explain away Alabama's ability to attract NMS he mistook your UA for Alabama instead of Arkansas.

Florida's grad program usually ranks somewhere around top 25. Not Ga. Tech's top 5 ranking, but still very good. The highest in the conference. The next closest, is Vandy at 37 and then Auburn at 70.

Am I the only one who is stunned by Clemson at #25? The impression I got from South Carolina fans is that Clemson was kind of the "B-School". You know, South Carolina:Virginia/Michigan, Clemson:Virginia Tech/Michigan State.

I could be wrong, but I always thought Clemson was considered a much better school.

Hey, asshat, do a little research on it before flaming.
Its sad - typical stereotype Auburn "little brother" message board banter. Like a Napolean complex everything Auburn is better than anything anyone else.
If anys student or parent of a student would do their homework they would find the schools closer than Auburn "supports" will admit - with Alabama leading the many in far more academic areas than Auburn. Auburn supports want to hang their hat on the Engineering monacle and likes to think they are comparable to Georgia Tech - which couldn't be further from the truth.
I wonder if SACS accreditation probation should even be brought into this subject. It's pathetic when we break into this kind of moronic banter.

Considering how old the University of South Carolina is and how much strength and pull it has in that state, that really surprises me.

I think Clemson is more engineering and USCe is more liberal arts, with Clemson requiring higher overall scores/GPA to be accepted, but I'm not sure.

Since everyone is going to defend their own schools, I'll just post this link from 2010: Best Undergraduate Engineering Ranking in 2010.
