What has changed and what has remained the same?

SEC East

1. #1 Tennessee: 13-0 (8-0)
2. #5 Florida: 10-2 (7-1)
3. #14 Georgia: 9-3 (6-2)
4. Kentucky: 7-5 (4-4)
5. Vanderbilt: 2-9 (1-7)
6. South Carolina: 1-10 (0-8)

SEC West

1. Mississippi State: 8-5 (6-2)
2. #16 Arkansas: 9-3 (6-2)
3. Alabama: 7-5 (4-4)
4. Ole Miss: 7-5 (3-5)
5. LSU: 4-7 (2-6)
6. Auburn: 3-8 (1-7)

A couple of notes:

- Only one team finished ranked from the SEC West
- Mississippi State actually won the SEC's Western division
- South Carolina was halfway through an eventual 21-game losing streak
- Tennessee was actually relevant

Wait... Why would an Alabama fan randomly bring up 199---

That Arkansas team was pretty darn good. Nutt had inherited a loaded squad from Danny Ford (who could recruit well but had horrible success at winning games here) and Arkansas played well in its two regular season losses, a 4 point loss to the number 1 ranked Vols and a 1 point loss to Moo State.

Michigan delivered a bit of a spanking to us in our bowl game with a 14 pt win but Nutt was, as a general rule, a horrible bowl game coach. It would take a little while for the limitations of the Nutt style of coaching to make themselves apparent.

vs. Tennessee L 24–28
vs. Mississippi State L 21–22

5 points..... a Stoernover and the inability to ice the game late (Miss State hit a game winning field goal) cost us an undefeated season.

then we lose to Tom Brady in the Citrus Bowl

Yea, we went 7-5 and Tennessee won the national title. Nobody cared about LSU.

My uncle recorded the Sec champ game between Msu and Tennessee. It's now in my hands although on a VHS tape lol. That was a great game until the last 6 minutes. Tennessee scored twice. Before that it was a defensive battle.

AU is a roller coaster. They've always been boom or bust, which is why they only have 1 back to back 10+ wins stretch and 1 streak of 8+ wins to go beyond 6 seasons (1982-1990). A quick look (feel free to check math as it was a cursory glance at wiki AU football seasons) shows they only avg 7.75 wins after a 10 win season.

And Bama has always been cheat or bust. It's why they win then end up on years of probation afterwards. Under any other ncaa president they would have been on probation after the first player was caught being paid and that would have been the end of the Saban tenure.

I think that was Terry Bowden's last year.

Arkansas only played 1 ranked SEC team that year, unless you count Alabama, who was ranked before we played. Can you imagine only playing 1 ranked SEC team today?
